Is it worth going for a GTX 1070 SLI over a GTX 1080 Ti for 1440p 144Hz gaming?

I don't think so.. maybe, but who knows. I was thinking on saving a buck, if you can wait till next year. If you really want to get something with more power, that will absolutly perfom amazingly well, then sell your 1070 now and get a 1080Ti ;)

And no, your 7700k will not be a bottleneck

The specifics here are very important:

I already have an MSI GTX 1070 in my system and am planning to upgrade. The MSI GTX 1070 I have is $439 USD new and $878 USD for two of them (new). The MSI GTX 1080 Ti is $766 USD new. I already have an MSI GTX 1070, so it would only cost me $439 to get another one, and according to this video here >

the GTX 1070 is just as good (sometimes better) than the 1080 Ti (in the sense that it achieves incredibly similar frames). Sometimes it is dramatically worse in games like Hitman because those games have trouble with SLI, but I could simply disable one of the GPUs for those games only (if it saves me the money it would cost to buy a 1080 ti I will go through the annoyance of disabling it).

I have a few problems though, as I can afford another 1070 but probably not another 1080 ti:

1. SLI support in games is becoming less and less as we move into the future

2. Some games like PUBG and Hitman don't support SLI (hitman does but it runs shit)

3. scaling issues

4. vram limitation

I only play a few "newer" games:

1. witcher 3

2. PUBG

3. AC Origins

4. COD WW2

The rest are old games from 2002 to 2015 games. This includes games like the original hitman and splinter cell trilogy to the entire assassins creed series.

Should I:

1. stick with my single 1070 until the price of the 1080 ti comes down (perhaps after nvidia releases some new GPUs)

2. Go for a 1070 SLI

3. Sell my 1070 and buy a 1080 ti even though i cant afford it.

I'm really conflicted atm. advice is appreciated.

SLI should only be used if there is not a more powerful/practical card.

I would sell the 1070 and get a 1080 ti. You probably can get at least $350 ish for it.

I'd say you either sell your 1070 and get a 1080 Ti, or you stick to your current one till next year when Volta may be released. To step up to Volta or get a 1080 Ti by then. They will probably be cheaper by that time.

Assassins Creed kinda lost me after Unity... used to be a big time fan but the last titles got considerably weak... it's a cliché to always kill the protagonist love interest on this series as well.

Played a bit of Syndicate only with the female character which was very nice but the story itself again was pretty weak especially in comparison to older titles.

Graphically though it is a great game to put a 1080 Ti to the test.

Honestly I havent been following it, I just saw it on the list and assumed it was out, kinda like how Destiny 2 came out and i wasnt aware of it's release (not that I have interest in that game, just an example) I'm waiting for reviews of origins before i consider getting it

To get back on track, GTX 1080ti

I thought unity was fine actually. Loved Black flag like almost everyone else, The AC2 series was good (I loved the ability to buy property and earn income that way) except revelations, never completed it. Syndicate was interesting, but nothing exciting. I found Rouge to actually be quite interesting if not but for the story alone

I liked Unity. Same with AC4. Syndicate was OK ish imo but ancient egypt kinda intrigues me and they spent longer working on Origins then they did all of their badly released games (unity), + its from the same dev team as AC4. It should be good.

Rogue has a great story and main character indeed, lately Ubishit's titles main issue especially if we take Watch Dogs 1 and 2 into account are the weak main characters... that is a big deal for me since I'm all for story driven games, but sadly Geralt's and John Marston's don't appear in every game.

@Sam_Fisher -> This is another great character I miss, Splinter Cell should totally have a follow up even if Tom Clancy's gone... About your question I got a 1080 Ti and it was best thing ever made me feel disgusted about my old GTX TITAN X Maxwell, it is probably the best graphics card set up you can get if you want go all in quality, Volta is very far yet and I would not find hard to believe that Pascal is still the 2018 architecture since AMD hasn't been able to fully beat it yet.

I really do miss Sam Fisher :(

Also, will there be any issue with a 1080ti and 7700K? Bottleneck? I would get a 8700K but it's 1. out of my budget and 2. I don't feel I need a 6 core CPU for gaming and very little video editing... It's either the 6700K or 7700K and I saw on this video here

that the 7700K is better by a bit....

Not even my locked i7 6700 has limited my GTX 1080 Ti potential to high end gaming, you'll be completely fine with an i7 7700k, Coffee Lake is the latest and greatest alright but by all means a Kaby Lake i7 would never not be enough to savor the delights of ultra gaming today or for the following years.

Haha honestly though an i7 7700k + GTX 1080 Ti will be by all means a true gaming beast for years to come, while also being plenty for your hobbyist video editing, just make sure to enable CUDA Acceleration for your rendering.
