School gives me iss for being late?

Ashiella

Do you think its write that a school should give me in school suspension for being late 3 minutes each time for 3 days within half a year? Because that doesnt seem fair at all. In allot of jobs if you were 3 minutes late for 3 days during the length of half a year, im 90% certain they would just either not care or talk to you about it. But immediate disciplinary actions? Is this fair, what do you guys think?

I always wake up significantly earlier than I need to be somewhere so that in the worst case scenario, I naturally wake up awhile after my alarm would be set in-case I somehow slept through it.

Once your out of school, you need to understand that many employers simply don't care that there was a 5 car accident on your way to work that made you late, they will just not care, they will not baby you, now is the time to understand this, they expect you to be there anyway. The only way to do that is to be always early, get used to doing that now so its a habit before you're in a situation where there may not be a second chance.

It is true that in the "real world" no one looks twice at rolling in to work a couple minutes late under reasonable circumstances; however going to school is about more than doing coursework and getting good grades. By using a seemingly exaggerated punishment for a minor offense, they're trying to instill a sense of accountability. Something that is very important in real life.

That has never really worked on me, it makes me more tenacious about going against the rule that landed me there in the first place.

Go to bed earlier. Get up earlier. You have commitments. You are the only person who is to blame here. Most entry jobs will just fire you for being late as you can be replaced with someone who wants to be there. Be on time. Be Prepared. Schedule yourself with time to spare. Dare I say... Grow Up.

Congrats on your first learning experience in being a replaceable cog. Welcome to the system.

Lets play connect the dots!

Well then you need to get over it. That is a personal problem that needs to be resolved, nobody is going out of their way to make your life difficult.

I dont think its to harsh. I go to a public school and last year everyone was late all of the time. They changed the policy to be very strict this year and no is tardy anymore. I know how you feel though, Im always late to everything but I can still get to school on time.

The only reason I'm here is that I have homework that I don't want to do

Sure it's unfair. Sure they shouldn't give you detention for it (or anything, but that's a whole separate issue). But that's how it is, and you shouldn't expect it to change while you're there. Don't complain about fairness or the punishment, they don't care and speaking up will land you more detentions. Wake up a few minutes earlier if you want to get there on time, because excuses don't matter.

Thing is, detention is basically staying after school an hour or so to complete work that you may have missed or something like that, i know the vice principal well and can probably get the punishment changed, but detention makes more sense than straight iss which is basically, do you work, just in a different place with no social interaction and no exercise or anything. For 8 hours, sometimes you dont even do anything, you just sit there.

Good to know solitary confinement (torture) is also a punishment used on children. I thought ISS was shorter than the whole school day.
