$188 CAD - worth it?

rasesh

Hey, I've got someone selling me:  F4-3200C16D-16GTZR (https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820232476&cm_re=F4-3200C16D-16GTZR-_-20-232-476-_-Product) for $188 CAD/$150 USD FIRM.

The above is the PC4 25600 compared to the more expensive PC4 25000

Used for 2 months, has original packaging and box.

Nothing wrong with it.

Worth it?

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/XxcMnQ/corsair-memory-cmd16gx4m2b3200c16?history_days=180 check the price timeline, the Corsair Dominator 2x8GB 3200MHz RAM has actually fallen in price from $240 to $225 surprisingly. All other RAM has gone up in price and probably will continue too.

It's $229 brand new.

I have the Asus Z270i ROG Strix mobo.

That silver & black suits the dominator better than using RGB white light.

What do you guys think ?

Get ready for a novel

Expect RAM prices to continue to soar throughout 2018. I actually invest money on the open stock market, one company I own stocks in is one of the biggest RAM and supercapacitor suppliers (MU Micron Technologies) globally and their revenues have done amazing this last 2 quarters due to high demand. This is due to a number of factors that will continue for the near future:

#1 - Apple was in production of the iPhone 8 when the Galaxy S8 was being released, they saw a real threat in the S8 and especially with the massive bezel-less design that makes the iPhone 8 look insignificant. They were worried about losing more mobile market space to Samsung and Android users in general in North America, hence the simultaneous release of the iPhone X (10) that is not actually available for sale yet. The release was early even by Apple standards due to their concern, and everyone could tell it felt rushed. (Like Intel releasing the X299 platform immediately in the response to Threadripper) .This inadvertently caused Micron the worlds biggest RAM/VRAM supplier in the world to focus on making more mobile RAM and supercapacitors for one of their biggest clients, you guessed it, Apple. Thus they have cut back manufacturing on desktop grade RAM in order to meet Apple's demands for the iPhone X.

#2 - More than ever people rely on computers, smartphones, tablets, etc. for daily use and all those devices use RAM, and supercapacitors on the logic boards. Even look at the PC gaming market, so many people that even 2 years ago didn't know squat about computers are now building custom gaming computers, the market for gamers is seriously growing. With estimates of custom gaming PC market growing by as much as 20% by the end of 2019. That's a lot of growth in a short time and keeping up the production to meet demand is not viable. Regardless of other factors supply would be stretched thin.

And lastly,

#3 - Crypto currency mining, I will keep this short and say no more. They buy everything in massive quantities and we all know what that is doing to the PC gaming market.

So do not expect prices to fall for a while, the market is growing too fast in general and it will continue to drive RAM and GPU prices up, and keep supply short. People wonder why the Vega 56 and 64 cards are not available in anything but the reference coolers and it is for the same reason. Just like how there is no 6 Core CoffeeLake CPU's. Demand is super high for all these parts, and the manufacturing cannot keep.

But I'm making money out of the ying yang on my stocks so I'm okay with it hahahaha.

Wow!

I did't know all that.

yeah I should try and buy it for his asking price.

Makes sense.

I was just worried that Black Friday and Boxing Day sales would be insane and I would be stupid to invest now atleast in ram.

Guess not.

Thanks!

Yeah, so I wouldn't feel ripped off buy RGB RAM for $193. Some good deals will come and go but for the most part prices will still go up.

For example, I bought Corsair Vengeance LED 2x16GB 3000MHz RAM and paid $270, that was a year ago. Now the exact same modules cost $425!!! That's insane! Even my crazy spending habits won't let me buy more of that RAM for those prices.

He wants $193 cad / $155 usd not $188 CAD/$150 USD.

Damn, hmmmm.

Still good? : S

Meh, I like buying used, but not almost $200 for RAM used. I'd just buy cheaper new RAM or wait for a sale/MIR.
