Windows 10 Precision Touchpad drivers on any laptop!

Recently, I've just found out that there's a certain touchpad driver (Elan or Synaptics-based) that can actually turn your crappy original non-Precision drivers to the one with Precision drivers, with no hardware modifications or registry tweaks required. It actually improves the touchpad experience very significantly (at least with the laptops I have in tested) when compared to non-Precision drivers. Note that this would only work when installed manually (through Device Manager).

 

For the laptops with Synaptics touchpad

An example of a laptop (Lenovo IdeaPad Y400 model 20192) with Precision touchpad drivers

I can't testify whether it would work with all laptops out there with Synaptics or Elan drivers but here are the list of some laptops I tested that works with Precision drivers. I'll try to keep this updated with more devices that I can find and you guys who test it out. Enjoy your "upgraded" touchpad

- Dell XPS 13 9343

- HP Envy x360 13-y013cl

- Acer Aspire V 13 V3-372T-5051

 

Laptops with Elan drivers:

- Samsung Series 3 NP300E4A

- Asus X556UB (Originally, Asus Smart Gesture driver based on Elan drivers)

- Asus ROG G501JW (Originally, Asus Smart Gesture driver based on Elan drivers)

Still running Asus Precision drivers. Windows says they're precision drivers and its ok but I use my mouse all of the time. Great info just watched Dave Lee's video on touchpad drivers so great timing!

Can confirm this works. It's been out for a while. Side note, not all Synaptic drivers are bad. Dell's custom Synaptic drivers are quite decent. While the fix improves a TON of other laptops, most Dell laptops already had custom gestures built in. The difference is not that huge in decent dell trackpads. 

 

For everything else though, god bless precision.

True, but unfortunately, the current Dell devices I have (which are about 3 years old) have crappy Dell's custom drivers. When I found out this trick, I wasn't really sure cuz the thought I had in mind was Precision drivers only works on those touchpads that are made to work with Precision drivers. After some digging however, turns out most laptops with Elan or Synaptics drivers (customized by manufacturer or just plain regular driver) have about the similar hardware, and the Elan or Synaptics drivers verified by Microsoft for Precision touchpad turns out to work like an overlay kind-of-thing. I was actually surprised myself when I first test it on my Lenovo IdeaPad Y400, I thought I was dreaming when the touchpad became really pleasing to use (the skimps and jumps from original driver seem to be non-existent), then trying it out on my other old devices, worked like charm and the touchpad experience improved pretty significantly.

Rip, I'd like to see the difference. The only non-precision laptop I owe is the Alienware 15r3 and even after installing it, it was wtever. Cause I had all the gestures already. Need to test it on some Acer's and such.

Can someone help me out I'm having Asus R558uq-dmd701d and it isn't having precision drivers. Currently, I'm using Asus smart gesture control which is very much creepy sometimes

You have to accept the fact that it doesn't support Precision driver. Can't do anything about it.

Not every laptops have Precision touchpad.
