7700k Or 8600k?

they should perform about the same in games so I would go with the 7700K since it will be just a cpu upgrade while the 8600k would be a CPU and motherboard upgrade

That's not a reason. Why spend more more money and time on getting a more expensive product if there isn't going to be a discernable difference between it and a cheaper option.

Oh yeah ...  btw, do you mind putting in 40 bucks extra for better performance??

the question needs to be is if the better performance will help at 1080p144hz.

There will, just not in his workload.

Hey Everyone, I'm going to upgrade my CPU due to my i5 6500 not being enough to support my soon-to-arrive GTX 1080

So the 7700k is currently £10 cheaper than the 8600k in the UK, I was just wondering, for gaming and the occasional recording to share with friends, which CPU would you guys recommend??

thanks :D

(The 8600k is currently out of stock, however, i have absolutely no gripes about waiting and for it if it provides a better experience, it can be preordered in my local pc store and received on October 26th)

Since you already have a Kaby Lake compatible motherboard go with the 7700k. It's only like 10% slower and it saves you over $100 in motherboard costs.

@UselessChimp Just going to make sure to remind ya that the 8699K will need a z370 mobo.  It won't work on your Z170 board

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

Yeah thanks, did factor that into the budget and at a stretch, I could afford one if the 8600k was worth it

I would suggest maybe saving the scrap and getting the 7700K, and getting a a really good air cooler or 240MM AIO (if either can fit into your case) and look to get close to a 5ghz OC.

If you already have one, then cool!

Someone else may be able to speak to if your board is good for overclocking.
