Did I break my PC? High idle temp. (GPU)

SamHF

Long story short I've had my PC for just over 1 year now. A few weeks ago I was really interested in overclocking so I gave it a shot. After hours and hours of testing and upping my clocks via Afterburner I managed to get to the point where I would crash etc which is fine, I just put my settings down.
However, I didn't notice much difference in regards of FPS just more heat so I decided to remove the overclock on my GPU and CPU by putting the settings back to default.

The problem I'm facing now I seem to be missing FPS within games now. Before I overclocked I would of got a solid 280-300+ FPS within CSGO. Now I can barely manage to hit 250 FPS.

I have also noticed that my GPU is hotter whilst IDLE unlike before. Before I overclocked my GPU was around 45-50 degrees IDLE but now despite reverting my overclock back to default settings it sits on a solid 60-65 degrees.

My question is did I break my CPU and GPU by overclocking it?

1. Make sure all fans are still running

2. Do the gpu temp rise under load (if not it may be a sensor error)

3. If none above were the case then just do a simple reboot (ik you have prob done this)

4. Try underclocking (this is not permanent but if it helps it may help you diagnose the problem)

5. If none above work try changing slots (and power cable) for gpu and/or replace cooler and reapply thermal paste.

6. boot windows into safe mode to see if that fixes it if so your in luck that means its software causing it

7. your f*cked

Thanks for the quick reply.

1. Both fans are running.

2. The GPU temps do rise underload. I believe it reaches around 80-85 degrees.

3. it's been happening for like 1-2 weeks. Back when I disabled my overclocks back to default.

4. what should I underclock to? bear in mind I'm a noob.

5. I was already told I should change the thermal paste but I'm worried. I did get a response from EVGA support saying 64 degrees idle is normal. But it's not, right?

to answers to

4. you should under clock your gpu by 200-500 this wont break your computer it has been done. but your cpu temps seem fine at 48 so i would leave that alone

5. 64 is safe yes but normal no i would really sugest booting in safe more and also doing a virus scan check. also check task manager if anything seems to high.

I did contact EVGA support. Apparently they said it's normal but everyone telling me 64 degrees idle is not, like yourself.

Also I think my CPU is overclocked at the minute I enabled game boost, is that a bad thing?

they dont say its normal but since it does not go out of "operation" then i dont think they will help much if you tell them how hot it gets under load then they might but 80-85 is for a gpu is not going to break it although past 100 i would contact them. So do what i said before and boot into safe mode and if you have an extra drive boot a fresh copy of windows onto it and see if that helps.

alright thanks . I'll boot into safe mode after this CS game to check the temp. Fingers crossed

Peanut gallery here.

Has your gpu fan curve changed, less aggressive?

I would apply new thermal paste, my 980 ti's idle temp went up a lot recently, changed the thermal paste and it was all good.

I don't know what happened but I went into bios and disabled and enabled game boost for my cpu but somehow my GPU temp went down?

Very strange. I went afk for like 10mins and came back and it's dropped to 40.

Very odd. All I did was disabled and enable game boost for my CPU lol
