This rumour is apparently mostly false:

First and foremost, Ashley is incorrect in saying that the 1070 Ti can't be overclocked. This is not true. Manual overclocking will be allowed by end users, but from what we can see, there is actually an "overclocking frequency cap." This however does not seem to be what we would call a "low" frequency. If you took a good GTX 1080 and overclocked it, and good GTX 1070 Ti and overclocked it, the GTX 1080 is still going to squeak out a win, but not by much. This is obviously being done to keep the GTX 1070 Ti from cannibalizing the GTX 1080 market. This GTX 1070 Ti should be able to easily handle Vega 64 as well, not that you can find any of those for sale at MSRP anyway.

1070...Ti? I feel like I've been under a rock or something. Why in all logic would this need to exist let alone after the GPUS have been out for over a year now? This is Sega CD/32X levels of why.

 

Maybe if the Ti version came out 3-4 months after...6 months at the latest, but we're in late 2017 and the 1070 came out June 2016. I sincerely hope no one is rewarding Nvidia with their money.

BIOS are encrypted on Pascal hence no way to re flash modded BIOS.  At most, if AIB have unlocked ones, you can risk doing a cross flash of the BIOS.

Yep, last I checked, no one found a crack yet.  Only thing I seen so far is people going back to cross flashing BIOS from different manufactures.

For flashing modded BIOS back onto a card, cross flashing still works since I see people in other forums and threads doing that method to 1070s, 1080s, and even 1080Tis.  Along with doing lead pencil/liquid TIM method to allow extra power by tricking the BIOS.

If you want to go with tradition of chip screws up and rebranding.

The 1030Ti will be Fermi based, and obviously the slowest chip by considerable margin, despite its name. But have 24GB of VRAM.

This makes sense, there is not enough room between the 1070 and 1080 for a 1070 ti. If you could overclock a 1070 ti you would no doubt meet or exceed the performance of a stock 1080.

Depends on how aggressive the manufacturer has set the 'base clock'; a lot of Pascal cards have no room above where GPU Boost will push them, and a lot of the time the user pushes it higher thinking they are getting a better overclock but are just making it unstable and making FPS worse.

Depends on how aggressive the manufacturer has set the 'base clock'; a lot of Pascal cards have no room above where GPU Boost will push them, and a lot of the time the user pushes it higher thinking they are getting a better overclock but are just making it unstable and making FPS worse.

But still, that counts as overclocking, regardless if it is GPU boost or not, and Pascal is one of the best overclocking generations we have seen. You can get 500+ mhz over stock boost clock on some cards, pushing 2000-2100mhz, which is amazing.

But that's the thing, they aren't really stock clocks if the card totally ignores them, are they? What 1080Ti runs at the 1550MHz Nvidia says it runs at?

 

If by having no overclocking they mean no user control over it, it's bad but it's not the end of the world, if by no overclocking they mean no GPU Boost, that's actually pretty bad. Then again, I don't really see why a 1070Ti even needs to exist in the first place, it's not like there's a huge gap between 1070 and 1080.

Feelsbadman, because of Vega being kinda shit, we're getting this shitshow rather than Volta. :(

I was really hoping to get rid of my 680/770 this year but all my hopes are dashed, though Nvidia already hinted that was the case.

 

If AMD can't pull out a win with Navi we're fucked, and based on Nvidia's posturing it seems they are already working on post-volta.....

If we won't be able to OC GTX 1070 ti, then why even release it.

 

GTX 1070 can match GTX 1080 performance once you OC your gtx 1070.

Every overclocked gtx 1070 will beat 1070 ti.

 

Few weeks ago I was defending 1070 ti release and it's place, but if they will be really locked, I can't understand why would anyone want to buy one lol

So it begins my friends, nvidia is turning into Intel, what intel did with their CPU's nvidia will do with graphic card, lets just hope AMD wont follow and then we can buy fully unlocked cpu's and gpu's only from AMD and fuck the rest, im actually quite happy if nvidia the garbage company, takes this decision and makes most its gpu's locked and a few top end that you have to pay yet another 100$+ extra to be unlocked, this will give AMD some advantage in the GPU sector so they can sell more, you shouldnt buy nvidia anymore if they do this.
