What program should I use to rip discs I own?

thorsong

I want to make digital copies of my movies. Don't know what would be the best to use. I know Linus has mentioned before what he uses for his Plex server, I don't remember what it was.

Suggestions?

I've used Handbrake, just make sure it's a clean copy and not an old janky one. If it doesn't have the codec it needs to strip encryption it should prompt you where to download it.

I thought this was going to be about audio CDs... well if anyone cares, my answer would have been Exact Audio Copy.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Makemkv is your best option to make a decent lossless source file. Then re encode down with handbrake.(optional)

But these programs both have limitations like makemkv will require you to purchase a licence for ripping blu rays and Handbrake on windows doesnt support AAC.

It is down. I use handbrake to repack files already and it is a great program. Anyone heard of anything else that works for ripping movies? I don't have a blueray drive, so these are all DVD's that I don't have copies of in any other format.

A lot of people seem to use Handbrake. I'm not really too into DVD ripping but I've used Handbrake once or twice in the past.
