It would be enough, just be careful when upgrading in the future.

Be plenty, even enough for a 1080ti (Assuming its of reasonable quality that is).

i was considering that upgrade in the Very distant future lol, but assuming i can afford a 1080Ti i can get a bigger PSU with it. gotta run all three 8pins on the Lightning Z am i right?xD

It would probably be better to wait for Volta since you have a 1060 (That will be fine until then), but no real need for a bigger PSU for a regular model (I guess if you want a lightning).

A 7700K and 1060 might consume 300W if you overclocked the everloving shit out of all of that hardware with LN2.

What 550W PSU do you have? It might be better to keep the EVGA if the unit you have is crappy.

550W would he plenty, sufficient to handle the peaks too.

However im surprised you just upgraded to the 7700k when 8700k is out.

i bought the Z270 gaming M7 in june, i didnt feel like upgrading mobos, also Coffee lake is kind of unimpressive in benchmarking right now, 7th gen came down in price aswell with the 8th gen coming out, so it just made more sense to get the one that was cheaper with similar specs. id rather save my money for Volta.

Thats totally fine.

I ran a 4790k with RX480 which both use more power on a RM550X without a problem.

It was using 350W max from the wall during gaming so that gives enough headroom.

With the GTX1060 and 7700K the power usage would be even lower.

The only reason to get a higher watage power supply is semi-active fans staying off and the power efficiency curve of the PSU.

they're very different in specs. Benchmarks arent unimpressive either as people said the same about ryzen while many game engines are changing for the newer CPU busses.
