Yeah I would try adding a fan and see if that helps, it should be okay but it shouldnt be too much trouble to add a fan if you have one handy

Il see if i can dig up an 80mm or smaller one.

Yes, OEM server boards are often like that, since they're servers and cooling is really important, these aren't off for very long (if at all) and they where still on when I took that.

Here I am with my measly 12 dimm slots..

Those looks super cool though that is awesome

The smaller of the two has a normal SSI EEB form board, so it could be used in any case that suports SSI EEB or even E-ATX. It only has a single 16x slot though.

Yours faithfully

Oh cool, that would be a lot of fun build into a normal case, I was able to cram my eatx into a mid tower and I love the compact look

I have noticed a lot of boards only have one x16 slot, I will temporarily have one that has 3 but almost as soon as I get it I am shipping it off to someone else

As far as mounting the fan, you can superglue it that is what I did. It stays on nicely and it comes off fairly cleanly

More tempted to zip tie it temporarily. Il actually go over things once I can swap stuff into my (yet to be built) wood case.

That is a good way to do it. Even if it was in a case you could probably mode a side panel to have an extra fan on it, or you could even do it without using a side panel but it makes me nervous when people do that.

If I get a case I'll probably go with custom cardboard airflow shrouds to get all the heatsinks properly cooled. Maybe even a watercooling loop... Not worrying about that just yet though. Budget for PC parts this year is gone already :D

Well, the 4.2 is my daily overclock. For Benching I can do about .4.6, maybe more, but I didn't want to damage my main CPU. The L5640 I've ordered will be tortured just like my e5620 though... That poor thing needed 1.5V to boot into Windows at 4.25GHz - others had it at 4.8 with that voltage...

You are a monster, those poor cpus hahaha

Well, its a 5€ CPU, what else should I be doing? Pet it? And it stayed reasonably cool at that voltage, about 60°C. I could have probably gone for 1.6V oO

Xeon e5649@4.4 GHz on Asus Rampage II Extreme or Gigabyte x58a-OC (whatever I feel like to set up at a time) , 6x4 GB Kingston HyperX 1600, Gainward GTX 670 Phantom, Samsung 840 Evo 240 GB, BeQuiet L8 530W

Ah okay. Hopefully the mobo problem is simple.

Using a fan should be good, I know my Rampage III Formula (I got it used, so no accessories) came with a fan to cool the northbridge and such when water-cooling. So it's designed to be actively cooled.

Oh wow, I am surprised that it stayed so cool that is really neat. I am very excited to get another 5690 to overclock in the new mobo I got but I don't have the budget to get the rest of the computer right now unfortunately

Anyone else run macOS? I'm currently making a bootable USB for my rig, gonna be a beast in Davinci Resolve (and @AluminiumTech, I can finally get that video done).

I was surprised too. But it stayed even cooler at stock speeds.

Don't get a 5690 for overclocking! If you want a CPU to overclock and don't care about budget as much get a W3680/W3690, those are unlocked like the i7 980X/990X. Oddly enough they are cheaper than the x5680 and x5690.

@Lord Nicoll Well, you aren't using Air cooling for that, are you? :D
