Kinda, it worked out better value to grab the 2950X with the board in the bundle I found (cheapest 2950X I found was like 595, I paid £620 for the bundle) so straight up replacing the 1920X cpu/board/ram kit and I'll either shelve it as a spare or shift it on to sort the rest of my water kit or something :3

Got around to installing my 9207-8i SAS HBA into the home server, that I bought a few months back. Now I can hook up my fresh warranty replacement 240gb Intel 545 for my VMs and start to use the newest 8TB shuck. Up to 6 3.5" drives and 2 SSDs for 28TB of addressable storage apparently. Copied my gameserver VM from the samsung sm951 nvme to the intel sata ssd at 390MB/s which is faster than I ever saw out of the 535 that failed almost a month after being removed from my personal rig.

Now I just need some big huge 5.25 to 3.5" drive adapter thing, hot swap bays or something in the future and I can continue sticking more drives in this thing until I trip OCP on boot!

I'll toss in this picture for a before of the nicest angle of my attempt to keep 8 sata cables organized, with only a couple dead cables stuck hiding in there somewhere.

I should really upgrade from those nasty molex fans but I really enjoy having the red LED fans which have a dedicated front panel button. Then I can tell from a distance when I walk past it that it's still powered on lol. I definitely don't want to install some cheap LED strips into something that sits in a spare room and hosts all my disks lol.

Some stuff rolled up today, wasn't expecting ram though, cpu does 4.2GHz with 1.4v so I'm pretty happy with that, does 3634 in R15 too, pretty chuffed, still got to dial the memory in proper mind you, just running a basic 3200MHz 14 14 14 34 1T but the secondaries and tertiaries haven't been touched so will do that tomorrow

So, I did a thing today. Someone on reddit was selling a pair of noctua coolers that would likely have better thermal performance than the baby noctuas I currently had on the SR2. Since watercooling is a ways off, I wanted to be able to tinker with OCing before-- if OCing doesn't help each VM perform adequately, not much point in WC with multi GPU.

Anyway, I got a good deal on two NH U12DX i4 coolers with secondary fans, so I tossed them in just now.

Before, my U9DXi4 coolers were hitting 58-61C under stress testing, at stock settings, on X5675s......which clearly meant there was next to no thermal headroom for overclocking or the X5690s I want to buy. However, with these bois, I'm running at a frosty 47-50C under the same conditions in OCCT stress testing.

So, hooray! OC headroom achieved! Pics of lil' cutie and biggish boii:

Also.....I found this SUPER COOL utility for the board. EVGA's E-LEET software lets you tune each CPU's voltages, QPIs, VTTs, independently and from windows! Lets you tinker with it without messing about in BIOS to test stuff. No clue how stable this is, but y0l0. This makes me really want to find one of the unobtanium EVBots they used to sell.

Very cool! Are you using it as a VM server? I'm using two 212 Evo Blacks on my s5520sc and it runs at a VERY cool on open air. <20C on idle and maybe 40C at 100% load. Still waiting to find the perfect SSI-EEB case so I can actually deploy this thing, oh, and for 1080Ti prices to fall even farther :)

I've had an AIO for my x980 and I'm not really happy with the temps, about 50C at idle with a steep undervolt. Speaking of watercooling, I found a couple photos of this crazy VRM+Chipset water block for my P6T7 WS Supercomputer and I cannot stop thinking about it. Too bad I cannot justify spending a months rent on custom watercooling loop.

Dang those blocks and that board look awesome.

Yup, I'm building a multi gamer 1 tower box using the SR2. It arguably doesn't have enough cores to do AAA gaming with 4 seats (realistically, 4x virtualized "4 thread" cpus plus 2thread/seat hypervisor overhead)....but OC might help, and might be able to reduce threads needed for overhead. Lots of tinkering and tweaking to go.

The SR2 motherboard is a shiiiiiit choice for this though due to the pcie multiplexer chip and other funkiness from being enthusiast hardware. It's been a royal pain to get going, but it's finally working at the proof of concept stage. Lotta work to go though. I have a backup 4x gpu supermicro board if this falls through, but without OC it's going to be fairly potato. Would save a lot on gpu costs tho.

Ultimate plan is WC cpus and mobo chipset/vrm (have that block from @Zando Bob), and 4x gpu. 3x gpu pretty much need to be FE 1080ti since they can be single slot (to fit usb, hba, nvme/10G pcie cards in adjacent slots) and don't have driver issues w/r/t vm shutdowns.....so yea I'm also eagerly anticipating firesales once 3xxx reviews drop.

Tbf you can generally put a loop together for not that much, I've never had any issues with aliexpress bits, you just have to be very careful and make sure you're getting brass/copper parts and not aluminium, still got that loop running happily at the other halves place, the only part you'd really have a hard time with is finding that particular block for the P6T7 WS supercomputer mind you, but you certainly don't have to spend a lot of money on a decently performing loop 😜

best 100 bucks I've ever spent on a motherboard. I only buy old workstation stuff and it's really the secret sauce when it comes to used hardware. Great features, overclocking support that's just as good if not better than overclocking boards, and amazing build quality. The price does tend to be on the more spendy side though.

I have looked into this a little bit, not much though. I love buying stuff on Aliexpress but I bought some RAM on aliexpress a month and a half ago and it still hasnt came. I'm seriously seeing if I can't buy the waterblock for this board for some obscene cost because the VRMs and chipset get so damn HOT on this board, even with the fans on full blast, and it would seriously open up the floodgates of overclocking.in the meantime I just got to get the RAM on this board working at 2000Mhz like this board advertises. :/ I don't know anything about RAM overclocking.

Yeah the postage times for ali stuff is a bit on the annoying end, but otherwise it's all good if you know what you're getting, though if it's been a month and a half I'd look at getting a refund at that point

Tbf, that board has a pretty efficient VRM so chances are if you're feeling heat on the VRM sink that's more than likely going to be heat from the chipset and the NF200's since it's all heatsinks and heatpipes, most of the heatsinking there is more for those two than much else, it'd be a bit of a pain to find that block though mind you

2000MHz is also going to be cpu dependant mind you, board may be capable of it but you also have to have a cpu that can do it too

Was able to dial in an overclock that I liked for my 980x that works well with thermals. Also got the ram to 1660Mhz after some trial and error. Hoping to get it to 2000Mhz after even more trial and error. Man, I forgot how much of a pain overclocking on this board is, since you have to initialize the SAS controller on every reboot.

That's a pretty good voltage for 4.3, you might have a decent chip on your hands, my W3690 needed 1.4v for 4.4, see if you can't squeeze 4.5 out of it 😜 as for ram though 1660 is pretty decent, running uncore at 1.5x or 2x mem speed?

current rig: Xeon W-3175X at 4.7GHz all core 1.25v and 3200MHz cache, EVGA SR3 Dark, 48gb of tridentZ 4133 Cl19 (A0 PCB) running 4000MHz 16 16 16 34 1T, 6900XT aorus master with an EK waterblock, 1440mm custom loop, corsair HX1500i, 2x256gb 7600P raid 0(boot), 6.4tb samsung PMPM1725 for games and general storage, Lian Li V3000 plus (not super duper happy with this in all honesty), main monitor is a 27" koorui 1440p 240hz thing, and then 3 secondary 1920x1200 60hz panels one left one right and one above

things are moving pretty swiftly, water kit arrived, managed to snag a 1080ti and a waterblock for 300 from a friend, just need the thicker rad, new case and a storage SSD and I'm sorted :D

im pretty sure 2x mem speed, can't remember. In other news there is a brand new Intel S5520HC board on ebay right now for anyone that wants a quality dual x58. Funny how intel pulled drivers and bios's for all their legacy products but still keep some stuff for this series. Still trying to find a case for my intel board. Kind of the last thing I need to make the build "complete"

Ahh nice, if that's running 2x mem speed then that'll be damn solid

Ooooo, those are real good boards and all
