It's annoying that 2950X's are hard to find here, the best I've found is a nice bundle on FB marketplace for a 2950X with an X399 meg creation and a noctua cooler, for like 650, which is a good price to be fair, but why can't I find just the cpu, like, anywhere, it's going to be a pain finding a buyer for the rest of the kit that I'd have spare, like the meg would be an upgrade over the X399 strix I have now, but I'd still have to get it sold, which is easier said than done with this stuff it seems :<

current rig: Xeon W-3175X at 4.7GHz all core 1.25v and 3200MHz cache, EVGA SR3 Dark, 48gb of tridentZ 4133 Cl19 (A0 PCB) running 4000MHz 16 16 16 34 1T, 6900XT aorus master with an EK waterblock, 1440mm custom loop, corsair HX1500i, 2x256gb 7600P raid 0(boot), 6.4tb samsung PMPM1725 for games and general storage, Lian Li V3000 plus (not super duper happy with this in all honesty), main monitor is a 27" koorui 1440p 240hz thing, and then 3 secondary 1920x1200 60hz panels one left one right and one above

It's amazing how far tech has come that you can go from 12 cores and 24 threads scoring 1392 in R15 to this:

My system would DEFINITELY benefit from a lot of things, faster ram being the best thing I can think of. With two x5690s it would be futureproofed for a while. The threadripper having newer instructions, being on a single chip and *em* overclocking puts it in a league like no other.

yeah, but then again a pair of X5690's at 5.4GHz still 'only' gets like 2466 in R15, closed the gap for sure, but still less 😜 but yeah the newer instruction sets and being on a single substrate help for sure, though i guess you could argue it's not one chip I guess, with that said, a pair of X5690's should do you nicely, before I got this TR kit I had a decent stint of gaming on a stock W3690 and it did well enough tbh

Oh my

speaking of, I'm half torn with what to do in terms of cpu upgrades, I can get a 7980XE for like, 630 quid, and prolly find a board for not too much money, I'm tempted to go that route, but my other option would be just to find a 2950X, but that's proving hard to find so far

that's a real good price, I'd love to stick to threadripper, just struggling to find a 2950X unfortunately

7980XE should spank the 2950X once OCed, since it's both more cores and faster ones. But it can be a beast to cool depending on voltages. @Den-Fi has his on a MO-RA3 420, IIRC it can still get decently toasty. IDK if he ever directly compared it to his 2950X before that sold tho 🤔

Should do, all comes down to finding a board for not silly money at that point I guess, but I can get a basically untouched one (never clocked or delidded, used in a workstation) for 630 or I can get a delidded and LM'd one for 650, and there are many of these available and all so no supply issues, but really it all comes down to getting it clocked really, that and I'd need to find a cooler to put on the thing and all since my DRP4 TR4 is, well, TR4 only, would only have to last a month mind you then it'd go under a reasonable water loop

I generally like my stuff fast 😜 but I've since found a nice 2950X bundle locally so I'll be going that route when I get my money anyways, works out best money wise since I'll still have a board, 1920X and cooler to sell on after the fact

Welp, bought 2 kits of viper steel 4133MHz and a heatkiller pro IV nickel threadripper block for the 2950X kit i'll be buying later today, should be fun (yes I know the 2950X won't run 4133MHz mem, but it's B-die so i can tighten the timings real nice with that)
