My Gambling Addiction

mark_p8

Gambling addiction.

I will admit that i have gambling problem. Gabling problem on in-game skins. Basically I pay case opening website hoping that I will get more than what I paid. And then, when I don’t get more or brake-even, I will bring those skins to another gambling site which gives me the opportunity to mark-up the value of my skins, but instead loose miserably.

I only do this every time my pay-check arrives. And only spending the extra (for example I receive $105, I will spend 5 on gambling).

I regret the time that I was curious about the names of the players that I play with (InGameName gambling.com). So tried...once. And then I thought I was lucky because I got more that what I paid, so I want more. Then it begun the loosing streak, the “I can’t wait to gamble again” feeling.

Now I feel miserable. Now I feel that it is not fun to play the game anymore without those skins. And let’s add the problem on my network that I can’t play well even though I want to play at my best, to enjoy, because of lag. This problem on lag exist because I only use WiFi connection. I am just renting a room to stay so the internet is shared with 5 other people. The landlord gave me permission to lay some ethernet cable but I am thinking about the other tenants that will suffer if I do this because our connection speed is only 3/1.

I think I am falling from being a gamer. I say this because I think that I am not improving anymore. The gambling, lag, and frustration.

At this moment I am trying to fight my gambling problem. I do this by draining(withdraw from ATM and store it in my closet) my debit card so that I can’t use it to transact online.

But even though all of this that is happening to me right now, I am always thinking positive. I believe that everyday is a chance to change my/your life. I will try to go away with gambling sites, and just focus on money on physical things, like upgrading my PC.

Okay this is long enough. If you read the entire post, I thank you for taking the time reading my story based on my real situation.

I currently play PUBG, help me get chicken dinner xD

It's honestly not too hard to get away from gambling sites: instead of hoping for an excellent gamble, try saving that extra $5 from your paychecks each time you get one and it'll add up. You'll get the skins you want like that in what would be a more plausible manner.

Hell, you seem to have a lot of self-control over yourself when it comes to however much you gamble away, so that's a start.

I traded my minecraft account for my knife...... lol. But fr though, just block the websites and do something else fun when  you feel like gambling. Also, csgo isn't the only game you have to play, you know. For starters, gmod is on sale for 2$ pretty often, and a lot of csgo players play gmod. This website should help: https://www.helpguide.org/articles/addictions/gambling-addiction-and-problem-gambling.htm

I have some funny stories relating to gambling, my friend had the skin-sanity like you did a while ago, and he used his boyfriend's credit card to gamble, then he had to do some unmentionable things on this forum to make up for it lol.

Thank you guys for the responses, I appreciate it.

After loosing the gamble, I always think that it should be better if I just bought some nice skins that I can afford instead of trying my luck. Even though I know that in every gambling site, the house wins. But this is the start to change things.

I’ve been playing PUBG alot lately but sometimes the network is against me. Maybe play offline games instead?

Anyway, I thank you again for your comments. Have a nice day.

Gambling can be fun, i think anything in moderation is fine as long as nobody is getting hurt.  If you make $105 and only gamble $5 and routinely stick to your limits i don't see a problem. Having said that, if its making you feel shit then you should probably call it quits :)

When i was in my late teens and early 20's i blew 300k or so at the casinos over a few years, i know what its like to bottom out and walk away, i found it to be like giving up cigarettes or drugs, even now many many clean years later i still feel like a piece of me is missing.

No offense but that isn't a real gambling addiction. I was ~8 years addicted to online gambling and PC games. :o I most regret the wasted time of my life.

I get the feeling of impulsively. I’m not into useless cosmetic items in CSGO, but I’ve done my fair share of spending more than I wanted to on DLC or apps.

Felt stupid because I was only satisfied for a short period of time, then it goes away and it honestly wasn’t worth the $10 or $20. Something is worth money if it brings happiness for a long time. Like a $20 game you spend hours on. Not a $20 colorful character skin that does nothing.

But the best way to stop is to just find something that will make you happy. Single player games that reward you for progression rather than spending is a good alternative for example.

It can be. Some of these skin websites are actually designed like real gambling sites using the same business model. Instead of tokens, it’s knife skins.

Actually some one are being reviewed and shut down by governments because they don’t have licenses to operate gambling websites and there’s debate whether or not it’s even legally defined as gambling.

I had casino gambling problem back in Romania. I could say my sister saved me when she invited me here in the UK. If not, it would've ended bad for me.

Now I got a new addiction: buying PC components and building up gaming PCs to sell them. And I'm not kidding when I say addiction:

- money spent on components in the last month: @£2800

- PCs built: 7

- money left in my bank account: £300

At least this addiction bring me money on top and it feels soooo good and relaxing building PCs.

Anyway, any addiction is dangerous when uncontrolled and consumes most of your time even when not doing it.

Hope you'll manage to get over and find something else to worth your time and money. A fresh start would help for sure.

Come to think of it, if I save all the money I spent on gambling, I could’ve bought the games that I want to play but doesn’t have on my steam library. And it should also stop me from being Captain Jack Sparrow.

I like PC building too. If I do that in here there will be no profit because all of the people here who wants to have a PC wants it to be fast AND cheap but these two are on the different end of the spectrum.

I hardly play CS:GO (52 hours since I bought it in 2013). But for a few weeks I got a little into it with a buddy. Over the course of a week, I dropped maybe $15 on cases and keys, and I managed to get a Karambit skin. My mind was blown. I never understood how people could spend money on that shit until I got a fuckin' item skin worth at the time $500CAD. But that was when I had to force myself NOT to buy anymore, because I knew it would never happen again. Played the game for another week or so, sold the skin for just shy of $500 on steam, then I bought myself and some friends Fallout 4, a bunch of other games, and refuse to touch CSGO again. It was too temping to spend all $500 on keys and pray for something else.

I don't know too sure about gambling...

But one thing I do know for sure is we all spend money on stupid things we shouldn't.

The key is to set an amount. And stick to it.

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.
