Shrinking SSD??

Hey i'm having trouble shrinking my ssd(which as 65GB left) and it does not allow me to do so, as it has system reserve partition by default. Using window 8. Doing this so i can dual boot w7.

Generally you need to defrag before you can shrink the filesystem and the partition on windows. Have you tried doing this? I don't see what the system reserved partition has to do with shrinking your main partition. I've done this a few times myself.

never mine i've created a VHD instead and install windows on it and its working fine, but still i could not create a partition for some reason.

Is the VHD expandable of fixed size , this does matter

You should NEVER defrag a SSD.

nah its on fixed i don't want it to expand and yeah no shiz don't defrag ssd.

You won't be able to shrink the size of your system partition ( C:\ ), as Windows is running of of that partition. Make a bootable linux stick and use Gparted to shrink your partition. As always: back up before doing this! Editing partition tables is a risky job and it can take quite a while to complete, so be patient!

Please don't advise people to defrag their SSD's!

true, that's a bad idea but generally you cannot shrink an NTFS filesystem without doing so since NTFS has no FS resize tool
