Ssd formatting problem

Mackelt

I'm trying to install windows on my ssd but windows is having trouble formatting it. I can't get into a disk manager on windows and I only have a mac to try to repair the disk. Any help?

Wipe it on the mac. You can delete the partitions, that's all you need to do.

You can wipe it during the Windows install.

On the mac, open disk utility select the SSD and click on erase choose GUID and something that windows can read

edit use exFAT

What's the specific error it's giving you?

"We couldn't format the selected partition. [Error:0x8004242d]"

when I click for more details it says "windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks"

Your SSD is probably broken... :/

There are some things you could try but I only know them for Windows and not mac...

when I click for more details it says "windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks"

On the Windows Install environment at this screen:

win10_install_screen.PNG

  1. Select "Repair your computer" > Troubleshoot > Command Prompt
  2. On the command prompt, enter in diskpart
  3. In the diskpart tool:
    1. Enter in list disk and verify which disk is the SSD. To make it easier on yourself, boot only with the SSD installed.
    2. Type in the following (assuming the SSD is disk 0):
      select disk 0
      clean
      convert gpt

That should turn it into a GPT disk that you can install Windows on. If for some reason that doesn't work, you can try setting the boot mode to Legacy BIOS instead of UEFI.

Yes that worked. Thank you!
