I think for a lot of older people, they started out with AOL but for me, my first email account was Yahoo! Mail back in 2003. But then Yahoo's spam filters are terrible and messages like "Canadian pharmacy and Rolex for less" so I decided to delete my Yahoo! Mail in 2009 and go with Hotmail for a while. But then, almost everyone I know is using Gmail so in 2010 I created a Gmail which is indeed cleaner looking and ads are less obtrusive unlike Outlook and Yahoo.

Outlook's obtrusive ads vs Gmail's ads

Also with Gmail, every message I click, the message is front and center unlike in Outlook where ads obstruct the view plus the message sidebar can't be removed. My iCloud Mail is mostly for Amazon though. The only advantage I can see for iCloud Mail is that it's free and it doesn't have any ads so yay for privacy.

I mean I host* my own site with my own email, doesn't mean I use it, I use Gmail for the 5 or so email addresses I actually use

* Well I used to, currently I'm improving my home network so it's not running.

I hoste my own E-mail. I simply didn't like offerings that are on the market, so I just created my own.

It also mean I can have a personalized E-mail address, which I will admit look good.

I use gmail, outlook and office 365 (my school email). I have found that setting up an email address with outlook is very easy, put your first name and last name and then come up with a username, then your done. But when it comes to security, I normally opt for gmail.

Just now, hey_yo_ said:

Oh no, I have a rack of servers in my garage, most of them run VMWare ESXI 6.5 and most of the VMs are Linux based, a couple windows ones for a SANs to integrate with my personal machine, but that was a project just for fun really, a SANs is way way way overkill for me and it literally just stores memes and family photos.

Got multiple emails with both Gmail and Outlook.

If I care about something when signing up, I use a certain email, if not I use one of my trash email and I also have a "professional" email with my full name. (Can't exactly give an email like "XxXsephirothXxX6969@gmail.com" to an employer if I want a job...)

I've switched to gmail as my primary as it integrates easily with android. I run several personal domains with e-mails but for various reasons their reliability is less than 100% and I depreciated their use.

  • 1 month later...

I've stuck with hotmail (outlook) since i first made an email account. I never liked the way gmail sorted the inboxes, plus I got way too much junk and whatnot. The ads in Outlook never bothered me since I always either used the mobile app or the actual Outlook mail program. I still use the desktop app for most of my mail, and then i use the windows 10 mail app for my schools office 365 edu email.

Currently majoring in computer networking. That's about it yeah. Not much goes on in my life.

Be sure to quote me if you want me to reply!

Primary e-mail is my Hotmail from like, 2000ish? But it's just used for signing up to websites and stuff. My more personal one is the one I setup through my domain and web host. I also have two Gmails that I never use.

Gmail as the email page looks very modern and the ads are intrusive, meaning they stay where their meant to stay.
