Linus needs to benchmark more games in hardware reviews

When running benchmarks, Linus always tests the same games like Tomb Raider and Hitman and what not, and it's getting old because I don't play those games (as well as a lot of other people).

 

I've never seen Linus test the following games:

Skyrim

Skyrim SE

Fallout 4

Lost Planet 2 (has built in benchmark, saw in one video)

Overwatch

GTA 5

Dark Souls 3

Need for Speed 2015

Witcher 3 (saw like twice)

Doom 2016

Bioshock Infinite

 

These are a lot popular than a few of the games he tests (with Skyrim and Fallout 4 being prominent). It'd be nice to see these games benchmarked (you can turn vSync off in all of them).

 

I mean if you're gonna benchmark at least test more than 2 or three things like Firestrike.

I have seen them all except NFS, Lost Planet 2, and Skyrim SE

Just keeping this here as a It's not worth the time investment required to test more games if you ask me (doing it on one card is fine, but swapping out multiple cards or CPUs can take quite a while).

 

There's so many websites and publishers that do much more in depth and thorough benchmarks that aren't reliant on on-camera talent, it doesn't really make much sense for LTT to do it as well. With the style of LTT's current content, it's really more about entertainment than just information, with (probably) the majority of people watching for the on-camera personalities rather than graphs and numbers. If they wanted to focus on graphs and numbers, doing write ups is much more efficient than videos. 

 

It makes more sense for LTT to focus its time on producing content that can take advantage of their on-camera personalities, especially when there are already so many other sources for the numbers and graphs.

I was asked why I didn't look for other YouTubers. That was my response.

 

Even then, it would be nice to see some different benchmarks.

I'm just going to be honest here with you, for content that you can view for free (aside from the price of your internet), you're being really picky.

 

But closer to the topic, if the sounds of their videos annoy you, couldn't you find a reputable website that has benched most of the games you want to see?

Like you said, this is probably me being picky, but I'd rather see a video of the game running on the card before going out and buying one based on numbers on a webpage that can be inaccurate.

well hardware unboxed always has an accompanying article on their site so you don't have to watch the video. and plus he also has a table of contents for each bench video

numbers in a video are no more accurate than numbers on a spreadsheet.

where do you think the numbers in the video come from? ... a spreadsheet.

the video is simply to aid you in seeing the data easier. the data itself doesn't change.

Skyrim is easy to run. 

Skyrim SE is easy to run.

Fallout 4 is inconsistent to do. 

Lost Planet 2 can be played on a potato at this point. 

Overwatch is easy to run on almost anything above a 660 Ti making results rather meaningless.

GTA V is a balanced option, but isn't a good choice as it's well-made and can push nearly anything. 

Dark Souls 3, I would hate to see Linus fight even a rat in that game and, even then, he'd probably put "unplayable" in the chart.

Need for Speed '15 is handled by any other racing game.

Witcher 3 is a good choice as it taxes the GPU quite heavily in most cases. 

Doom 2016 is capped at 200 making results meaningless in the long run. 

Bioshock Infinite is easy to run at this point.

Every game they test takes a little more time and that costs money so it's probably just an economic decision.  It's not like they don't know about these games, it's just that there's only so much time.  If there was infinite time and money I'm sure they'd be happy to do 100 games :P

Imo running few demanding and relevant games is more important than running billion of latest and greatest. The fact that they are using Ashes of Singularity much (built-in benchmark, there's older free called Star Swarm) is good example. Can be very demanding, is current and relates to many strategy games with much stuff happening on screen.

 

If you want more games, look for more reviews. And maybe more written reviews. Those tend to have more time to run different benchmarks.

 

E: Its also about being able to make comparisons with older hardware. So its no use to pick latest games because they'd have to rerun old hardware to get valid comparison.

My guess Linus doesn't put in more benchmarks in his videos: Because they don't feel like putting in the time and effort.

I mean, I doubt his views would go up just because he included a few more games, and to me it seems that is their number 1 priority.

 

 

I only see one issue here and that's that you expect information from a LTT video.

If you want to be entertained then watch LTT all you want. If you want information though, such as benchmarks, then you're much better off looking up a proper review on a site like Anandtech or PCPer.

I usually just skip the benchmark graphs whenever they show up in a video and would only look up the data in articles when i need them. Im sure most people does the same thing because graphs are boring and would only be detrimental to the audience retention efforts.
