Yes picking up a random machine and needing to edit video is a very common occurrence for todays Video Editors.......Its not like they have their own or anything.....

well a 1060 laptop can do well in editing, aero 15 or xps 15 can beat the MacBook pro in premier for less, you can also game on it.

Fair enough, but if your main focus was video editing on your machine a MacBook Pro and Final Cut are simply faster at editing video.

Cpu is really important for video editing so an OC i7-7820hk and a good cooling system is better IMO

But a laptop with an OC cpu and a good cooling system is about 2,5kgs/3kgs

If weight is not a problem so an msi gt62vr 7rd or a clevo p650hp6 with an OC i7-7820hk should be fine for video editing. Msi 16L13 or clevo p750dm2 with a delidded desktop i7-7700k are great for video editing IMO

if you want to save money go for the 7970, 280x doesn't have anything new, might have better binning and driver support.

If all you care about is the far performance man you have a lot to learn about computers.....The spec bump made the machine cooler and more power efficient, the performance improvement just happened to be there as well. 

 

Sure put at 1080Ti in a laptop and be tethered to a wall since the machine would die as soon as it upped its clock speed anything measurable.
