Best laptop of 2017 so far??Razer blade 14"?

Hello,

It's that time of the year when I get to pick a gift for myself and I have decided on a laptop. I will use it for video editing and some gaming but not that much. Basically I want a portable workstation since I use my camera quite often and I am not always home. I thought of the new MacBook Pro but discarded it because of the comments I saw at an earlier threat about the MacBook vs Razer blade. So I saw the new Razer blade and fell in love with it. It's lightweight and powerful but are there any competitors that are worth considering?

Thank you very much!

If you want a good workstation I would recommend the Alienware 13 with the OLED display. But that is my opinion. However, Razer Blade's are well know for having terrible heat management so keep that in mind.

The aforementioned MacBook Pro. Don't forget, FCP X is much cheaper than Premier for video editing ($300 one-time purchase for 6+ Macs, vs a subscription). Also, Apple isn't plagued with the terrible QC Razer has had on anything newer than 2014.

Yeah true but I have already purchased premier and have actually never tried FCP b4

ThinkPad, aero 15 or older 2015 15 inch MacBook with DGPU, razer laptops has so many issues not really worth considering.

I'm not really into laptops and the only two I have tried and really like through videos and reviews are the MacBook and the blade so any other alternatives or comments that I should watch for are really helpful!

if you use Adobe( that would be better since you are not locked into an ecosystem), MacBook pro 2016 sucks, if you use FCP, get a 2015 15 inch with DGPU.

So MacBooks are a bad choice if I keep on using adobe in general? Then is there a good option for an adobe user?

Straightest bull I've ever seen. Adobe doesn't perform as well but it does perform well enough.

for video editing you will use CUDA cores, so xps 15, aero 15 or thinkpad will be better.

Ok, here are my top pics for the smol laptop market

AW 13.9

Gorgeous screen, a bit heavy and good battery. ALL THE RGB, EVERYWHERE 7700hq + 1060

Aero 14/15

Nice screen, backlit keyboard and battery life.  Superb build and looks with a solid lightweight setup.  7700hq + 1060

Aorus X3 (13.8)

Unlocked cpu, nice screen, heavier than a blade or aero but lighter than a AW, outperforms everything else in this category.  Good build, rgb keyboard 7820hk + 1060

"not as well" whats the point of getting it than when you can get something better for cheaper?

Computers of this tier aren't black and white. "Better for cheaper" has more to do with needs than absolute fact.

Sure a Desktop PC with a 1080Ti is better than my MacBook on paper but I can take my MacBook anywhere. Therefore the MacBook is most likely a better overall investment.

Or OP could just use FCP and make all other editing machines completely beyond irrelevant.

or a XPS 15 with 1050 that will perform better, or aero 15 with that massive battery life and a gtx 1060, bonus being having ports.

sad to say, Macbook dongle edition is not really recommended for most people, watch Dave lee video on the rendering test.

I don't need Dave Lee to make up my mind. He has a good channel but he's kinda like Louis Rossmann in the respect that he doesn't know what he's talking about sometimes.

But a MacBook Pro would still put those machines to shame in editing tasks with FCP. (and no you aren't locked down since there is this thing called "uninstall"

Evidence is only useful if you can understand it.

you have these options:

all depends If you like Apple SO and If you prefer it to wind10. MBP has a really good panell, build quality, battery life and also thunderbolt3 ports for egpus but it is pricey.

you can have many of these aspects in a cheaper windows laptop like aero 15 (with a gtx1060) or xps 9560 (with a gtx1050) IMO
