linux > 7 > 8.1 > 10 for fps in gaming

7 or linux would be most usable for everyday tasks

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

I would go Windows 7, or a Distro of Linux.

In real world test you may get a 5-10% performance boost between Windows 7 and Windows 10 but that honestly depends on what your doing. There are still of ton of ways Windows 7 is more secure, better performing and an all around better OS than Windows 10.

CPU: i7-4770k @4.8ghz---Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth z97---Ram 32gb Corsair Vengeance---GPU: 2 EVGA GTX 980 4gb way sli---Case: Corsair 600T White---Storage: 500gb 850 Pro & WD Black 4tb---PSU: Corsair RM1000

Ok To Make This Simpler:

Windows 7 Was made for Internet access and High Level Programs, Not Gaming.

WIndows 8.1 is Basically Windows 7 With The Layout of windows 10, no change.

And Lastly Windows 10 Was Actually Built For Gaming, It even has a Gaming Mode Built In that recognizes Full screen applications, and Turns everything else on low so the performance in the game would be better.

In Short For the setup you currently have, get windows 7 because it can run smoother with lower ram than windows 8.1 and 10.

If you have the money I would upgrade your ram to 8GB, and Depending on what type of intel i3 you have and your cooling options you could overclock for maybe 2-3 hundred more Mhz, even with the graphics you have now you can do decent games, i can run Crysis at a constant 20 fps on a laptop, and its not a very good laptop.

Saying that windows 7 was or wasn’t made for gaming doesn’t exactly make sense, for a variety of reasons, one of them being that the “gaming mode” on windows 10 is little more than a placebo, and half the crap it turns off isn’t in windows 7 to begin with.

@OP: It’s up to you. Windows 7 will only be supported until 2020, but IMO it has less crap in it. However, you will inevitably need to upgrade at some point, probbably to 10, and you will need to buy windows again, a ~$100 cost. If you’re fine with paying for windows now and a few years down the line again, then go with 7 and upgrade later to 10.

Ignore what everyone said, Windows 7 is too old to continue using.. its 8 years old by now. This hardware runs Windows 10 just fine and games might actually run smoother because of the optimizations Microsoft has done in Windows 10. Windows 7 would also be a pain in the butt because of the amount of updates that you will get when first installing it, it will also be out of support in 2,5 years(!!!!).

Trust me people who tell you to run Windows 7 on that hardware have no idea about OS support cycles, nor do they know how archaic Windows 7 really is.
