Best way to use my FreeNAS box to download things?

So I have my FreeNAS box and it's low power, just a duel core 1151 Pentium and 8 gigs of ram. I want to download torrents and archive.org stuff on this box so I don't have to tie up my main PC with that kinda of thing. Whats the best way to do it, I assume run a VM but im not sure how to go about that or what one to run. Anyone shine some light on this for me to get me on the path?

try wget. simple command line downloader you can access through ssh. if it is not installed by default it should be available through the package manager
