I was looking at the Sennheiser HD 6xx and AKG K7xx, and as a gamer which of these would provide the better gaming experience?

I mainly play competitive games like CS:GO, PUBG, and overwatch. So I believe that I would need positional awareness and a lighter bass to hear footsteps and to locate shots by sound. Which of these two headphones would work best for these types of games?

thanks in advance for suggestions.

HD6XXs. Better headphone in general, and have less bass than the K7XX

thanks for a response faster than I could click submit, and I have heard that the sennheiser HD 6xx are sort of veiled, would that be detrimental to the gaming experience?

I have never heard that personally.

keep in mind that the 6xx doesn't ship until december. might need a 'placeholder' headphones until then

I do have headphones until then, my HyperX cloud headphones are starting to die but they should last until december.

That is one of the main things with them.... How new are you to this? Judging from your audio posts I would say very very new.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M

I have not used HD600 variants before, so I can't really say much about it. (I own and tried using HD800 for gaming)

K7XX should be pretty similar to K712 Pro. If it is so, then I would say it would be a phenomenal gaming headphone.

On a personal preference side, I do not like 2 cable headphones when I am playing games. I prefer single cable so that I can sweep it away from my face and neck. 2 cable more often than not touch my neck, which is something of a pet peeve  during gaming. Not really a problem when I am listening to music in more serious manner though.

So even with that cable matter alone, I would choose K7XX over HD6XX.

Hope this post is somewhat helpful in making your decision @HalfOfALifeLeft.

yes it does help. I didnt think the the 2 cable thing, it does sound annoying, and I already decided to go with the k7xx firstly because, like techicolors said, the HD 6xx only ships in December, the k7xx ship in three business days.

Sound is subjective so my best advice would be that you go to your local audio store, audition both of them and see what you like best.

Try to have a DAP or your smartphone and some songs to listen to it with. You may be able to borrow if you don't but your mileage may vary.

I already tried to find both at stores nearby, sadly I couldn't find anything above Sennheiser HD 240s at stores nearby. Thanks for the suggestion though.

That's just not true anymore.

Maybe rev1 back in the 90's was veiled, but there have been many revisions, certainly not veiled now, in any definition of that fairly ambiguous word.

Nah, step up your game bruh.

Wireless headphones have NO cables, and for that matter alone, I would choose them over Focal Utopia.

Hope this post is useful in making your decision @HalfOfALifeLeft

OK Lori.

What would be a good setup for the k7xx? I'm thinking of buying 1 myself, but not sure how much I'd need to spend on an amp/dac/soundcard/whatever. I'm also really only looking for gaming.

You may not need anything for gaming. I would wait and try them on your current system. If they don't get loud enough for your liking or there is humming or hissing noise then look into a Schiit Fulla 2.

It also depends on what audio is intergrated into your mobo. A standard mobo without dedicated audio would really benefit from something as affordable as a fulla 2. A good DAC improves sound stage and that would improve your gaming experience too.

HD6xx are on the bassy side. The imaging is superb, but soundstage is worse than the K7XXs.

I would think the opposite is true. At least, from a HD600 vs k702 perspective.
