Best android phone for $200 right now (refurbished OK)

Refurbished Note 5's that support CDMA networks usually go for around $250-$300 on Ebay. I would grab that.

The zenfone lineup will never be good as long as they keep slapping on ZenUI and never updating their devices

Eh they're getting better, they gave the Zenfone 3's 7.1.1.

ZenUI is easily replaced by a different launcher.

I'm talking about the default asus Zen ROM in general, its just horrible.

I've never found that kind of thing to be a huge issue. I spend hardly any time digging around menus. As long as it's not a horrible battery leech, I couldn't care less. Can't be any worse than stock Android.

Not sure about the new snapdragon chipsets but on my intel chipset, Zenui ATE through battery. Slapping on Cyanogen improved the battery GREATLY. but maybe that was cause intel atoms were a flop

Oh boy. It's kind of unfair to compare a phone that's that old to something that's out now. The Atom wasn't even that terrible, it was pretty average for phones of that year. I'd say the Zenfone 2 was probably Asus's first real entrance into the cell phone market, where they actually tried. Obviously their first attempt would be rough, but if you look at the Zenfone 2 compared to the Zenfone 3 it's a massive step forward. I'm hoping the Zenfone 4 will follow suit.
