Selling the MG279Q for the PG279Q?

Greetings,

At the start of 2016 I purchased myself an ASUS MG279Q. For the monitor I spend about €570,-.

The reason I went with the MG279Q was because it was cheaper then the PG279Q, yet still offered 1440p 144hz IPS. Freesync was a nice addition trough, because I still had my R9 390 back then.

I used Freesync for a short bit but then simply kept it turned off. I was more interested in finally having 1440p 144hz and IPS. Something that would last be the coming years.

A couple of months ago I sold my R9 390 for the GTX 1070 Strix OC, something that would give me more power so I should play games at better fps while still being able to run at 1440p.

The thought I've been having is the idea of selling this perfect monitor, a monitor I have no issues with, for the PG279Q. If I where to do this, then I'd need to spend an additional €400,- for practically the same monitor.

Both are 1440p IPS 144hz, but the PG279Q has a different design, which I do like a lot, and the inclusion of G-sync instead of Freesync.

I've been happy with my monitor since I owned it, but when I read online about it I see people mentioning how ugly they find the design. This makes me start to get unsure.

With free-sync I basically stopped using it at a point. This might also happen with G-sync.

Another thing is that I can basically sell my 1070 Strix OC and spend that €400,- on a GTX 1080Ti. Something like this seems much better spend.

This post might be somewhat weird, I admit. But I just want some opinions on it.

Just keep the monitor or shell out €400,- for something that is basically the same.

Edit: I have a 6600k at 4,7ghz, 16gb ddr4 2666mhz and 1070 strix oc.

I wouldn't waste 400 Euros for that. You could get a better GPU as you mentioned instead, G-Sync is cool but I don't think it's 400 Euros-cool.

So I'd say: If you want to invest in that department, wait for Vega (it comes out in a few days) so you benefit from FreeSync and if it really turns out to be crap, get the 1080/Ti and just use FastSync with your current monitor.

Although I have the PG279Q with a 1070 myself - I would also suggest spending that money on the 1080ti and upgrade the monitor down the road when the technology will be cheaper anyways. Or go straight to 4k, because a 1080ti is almost a waste for 1440p.

IMO 1440p at 100Hz+ is more enjoyable than 4K60 at the same screen size

I wouldn't call it a waste, just because it's usually only getting around 90-150 FPS at 1440p.
I personally prefer a high frame-rate over better resolution. But hey, that's my opinion.
