Can the NZXT Kraken x42 Cool the i7-7700k under load?

I need to know if the Kraken x42 can cool the i7-7700k. I can possibly get the x62

Yes it can, but the real question is... why get that when you can get much better coolers for the same amount or cheaper?

What? No, it can't, at least not within a reasonable temperature. Try sticking it on a 7900x and tell me how it goes. lol even an h110i can't handle it.

That depends on how much overclocking you're doing.

 

If you're running stock, the X42 should do a fine job of keeping it in acceptable ranges under load, but if you plan to overclock and have the option to use a larger radiator,  you should. Boosting the voltage to push the OC as high as it will go is going to cause more heat, which means a larger radiator (like the X62) would do a better job.

 

Personally, I recommend the Arctic Liquid Freezer 240 if you have clearance for it. The X62 is a thick 280 radiator, but it's thinner than the Liquid Freezer 240 so the actual surface area difference isn't that great (the liquid freezer 240 coming in around 8-9% less surface area). However, the Liquid Freezer 240 is 46% cheaper than the X62. Unless you're willing to pay the premium, the 240 is a much better buy.
