Pokemon GO goes no where at the first Pokemone GO fest

RudePlayers

It seems that during the Pokemon go fest in Chicago the servers were not working, users were not able to play the game leaving many fans out raged Niantic at first issued a refund of 100 dollars of in-game currency but later offered a full refund of 20 dollars for the wrist bands.

I've been seeing different reports some saying it was mobile carriers and some speculating it has to do with special events in the game.  But Niantic should have been prepared for a large amount of players.

The Pokemon Company should have researched Niantic and learned about the crap that happened with Ingress. Pokemon GO is basically Ingress with a Nintendo skin, so I wasn't surprised at all how much they failed.

Millions of people still play it, so hard to say that they failed after all this time.

From what I initially read, it wasn't servers that weren't working, but the setup they were supposed to have for WiFi wasn't working for people in the area. Apparently, only people with Sprint as their carrier had coverage that was adequate enough to play the game, and some people were able to get Pokemon just outside the park on the perimeter.

I don't play the game, but it's kind of sad that this whole effort was essentially for naught. I didn't think it was on a popularity level to even have an event like this until I read about it a few days before it was set to happen. Disappointing for those community members to have this happen.

Well that's disapointing. I stick to the main series game emulators or just fan-made Pokemon games on PC.

I happened to be near a cluster of Pokestops (that's what they're called, right?) and a Gym last night while I was discussing business with a client and there was a small army of 12-16 year-olds with phones and powerbanks arguing about pokemen.

Unfortunately my usual watering hole is right next to a gym and a pokey-stop. It's constantly flooded with teenagers again to the point where I have to call ahead and have one of the bartenders reserve a table so I can drink a beer <__<

Sooooooo kids go into your bar? At least here in Sweden that's not a problem seeing as anyone under 18 can't get past the door usually. Depends on the place though.

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Same. I'm not deleting the app but there's just nothing of value in the game around my area as well as nerfing daily coin collection from 100 to 50. so you can only earn 50 cents of in game items per day, max. If they made playing on a bike feasible again I would though.

I never said it was a bar. Well, it is, but it's outdoors and they don't serve alcohol to minors anyway (they actually have a fairly extensive non-alcoholic menu). It's not one of them sleazy 5x5 basement that smells like cheap liqueur and caters to drunkards.

hahahahahah, I play a fuck tonne with my dad - he's 62 and plays on a rapidly overheating moto g4 play

he's level 37, and to go from 37 to 38 it's the same amount of XP as level 0-30.

i'm level 24.

there's 4 pokestops over the back of our place, and we have a route around our town that nets us around 15 pokestops total and two gyms, which we usually take.

during the holidays like two weeks ago I'd be sitting on my desktop in the loungeroom and my dad would ask me every day around 7-10pm if we wanted to go on a pokemon run, and at one point we went out at 10, he said 'we'll only be 45 minutes or so, dont bother bringing battery packs' - we took both gyms, saw a bunch of drunkards fight at the train station, and came back home.. at midnight.

idk

The game is a brilliant skin over not greatly thought out game & monetization design, along with no clue how stupidly popular it was going to be at the start. And the technical side was clearly not prepared for a "LIVE ACTION POKEMON GAME". This wasn't a flash-in-the-pan hit; this was always going to be a sure-fire Hit after it was proposed. However, it was also put into the hands of not great Devs and that was the main failure.

but the concept is great it is a video game that gets kids off their bums and i actually socialised more from this game than any other. Its downfall were the technical issues, this is why i stopped playing. Sadly in my city some mothers and children stopped playing when some young men were getting aggressive over territory, so maybe not so great in that aspect of the game.

This is not purely Niantic's fault. The server issue were probably from users connecting half way or retrying non-stop due to a shit data signal.

This is mostly the carriers as network congestion was too much not only for the people at the event, but people in the area trying to use data as well. And to the people saying "well niantic should of worked with the carriers or added their own wireless", this was still a big event with 20k people. There is still a main weakness of WIFI and 4G, time slots. Wifi would of helped but would of been clogged just as fast but there really isnt much they could have done to make this better other than spread it out.
