I'm checking my local KSL Classifieds (my equivalent to Craigslist) for used graphics cards deals. Anything can be better than the crappy Radeon HD 3000 graphics on my motherboard. I've narrowed it down to these three cards:

GTX 770 for $100

R9 270x for $75

R7 265 (basically a R9 270) for $60

(Possibly a GTX 750 for $50)

Which one of these cards would y'all recommend? I'm looking at doing light gaming (Minecraft and Openspades, no Crysis or Minesweeper here) and some game development (using a Unity-like engine). Keep in mind that I'm running Linux so it would be a little bit harder than usual to overclock any of these cards.

Thanks for your feedback!

The R7 265 is not basically a 270. The 270 and 270X are rebadges of the 7870, the 265 is a rebadge of the 7850.

With those prices I might lean towards the 270X, but if you can knock a few bucks off the 770 it would be a nice step up.

Truw even at 100 USD i wult stil take a hard look at that card. If usedit and i can tell you its a fucking beast. i payed 1 year ago 125 euros voor a MSI whit 4GB. Just ceep looking trust my as some one how is dowing a lot af secend hand trading ect. Just tel him you can do 90 now or you gone look at someing els.

Sorry, from what I looked at it looked similar to the 270. Anything would be a nice step up from my graphics :D

The GTX 770 is the clear choice since you're running Linux. If you were on Windows I'd say the R9 270x would be the obvious choice, but AMD on Linux is a mess from benchmarks I have seen.

Thanks for the info, I had no idea that AMD had problems with Linux.

Just for all y'alls information, this is the rest of my build:

AMD FX 6300 (I know, not the best)

8GB DDR3 (1600mhz, but my mobo only runs it at 1333 mhz)

Corsair 600W 80+ Bronze PSU

And the rest doesn't affect the graphics card.

I remember seeing some benchmarks a couple of years ago where the R9 Fury X performed around the level of the GTX 750 Ti in AAA games in Linux. I doubt AMD has the money to put much into their Linux drivers. It was the same story back when I used to use an ATi card in Linux in the early 2000s.

I have integrated motherboard graphics, they're called Radeon HD 3000. They're really really really terrible and have to use some of my RAM anyway which is annoying.

Interesting. I don't think the 770 guy will take anything under $100, but I'll try to get that anyway.

Then again, I wonder if the GTX 750 for $50 might be better. I mean I used to play Minecraft on a GeForce 8400GS paired with an Athlon64x2 4000+ in Linux and it was playable, and userbenchmark has the GTX 750 as 2400% more powerful than the 8400 GS. I don't know the other game you mentioned though.
