Need help buying Sound Bar

Hi Guys,

I am looking at buying speakers for my TV room, because currently I am using the speakers built into the TV and they're those crappy 2" 10Watt speakers that come in all the new tvs.

I am looking for a better sound experience, but my space is restricted. I was looking at sound bars, but they look like they use the same crappy speakers. The BOSE sound bar looks amazing but it is much more than I am willing to spend.

What is a good sound bar under $400? am willing to go as high as $500 if the quality difference is worth the extra money.

Plus it doesn't have to come with a sub. My room mate would probably prefer it if it didn't.

Thank you!

I'm not an audiophile, I'm just really picky about my music... and my headphones... and my speakers... and my microphone. Other than that, I'm totally not an audiophile.
