can u game on a core2 duo E8500 3ghz

I was wondering if i could game with a core2 duo and a geforce gtx 1080 with  a 120gb hdd on  a lonova think centre m58p from 2009 with  ddr3 memory but thw pc has custom parts and not the original case or any thing  all parts fron ebay lol lol but if u can try it out and tell me that would be great and ps i build pcs

World of Tanks will run on it.

So many other games will too...

Just choose a year timeline (1980-2010 maybe) and start getting old games before that and enjoy it for all it can do..........don't expect to play many games after that year (very well) due to CPU's likely needing to be stronger without inducing crippling performance losses.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

You can game any game up to 2012~properly enough, but a GTX 1080 will be massively bottlenecked.

hell no. the core 2 duo is woo much of a bottleneck for a 1080... it would max out at a 1050 already

Any ways it is an odd pairing but it works for less CPU intensive games... the poor CPU will just be maxed out all the time nonetheless...

I built a super budget cheap rig for a cousin of mine featuring a Core2Duo E7500 @3,3ghz with a Zotac GTX 560ti and it was really great balance wise, GTA IV ran almost fully max out at solid 60fps for instance, since my cousin only wanted e-sports like CS:GO and League of Legends and his display just a 1680x1050p60hz it worked out sweetly.

 

Also you should see back when I joined programming course at college, there were like 20 guys and just me as girl, awkwardness at it's finest xD

Yeah I did something similar to a PC of mine several years ago. It's amazing how well balanced of a system you can get from something sub-par with a GPU that's pretty much the same, given there were still a TON of games leading up to now that still only used a single core. Like, multi-thread aware games were kinda rare until about a year or so ago... which is mildly sad.
