I may be designing a mITX case over the next year for a class, and I'm curious as to what GPU length I should fit in to retain as much compatibility without expanding the case. Currently, I'm estimating about 270mm card with a total case volume of ~5 Liters.

Most people don't really pay attention to GPU Lengths. If you want to find out your length, go to Pcpartpicker's video card list and search for your video card. It should have length listed on the left side of the product's page.

If y'all could list your specific gpu name in addition to the poll - that would help a ton. Thanks.

are we measuring PCB or the cooler shroud?

It says GPU length, so you have to measure the substrate ;)

The cooler shroud - the longest part of a gpu without doing something like this.

MSI GTX 1060 Aero ITX 3GB — 175 mm (6.9 in)

I would say either 180 mm or 280 mm clearance would be where to go if designing a space-efficient case. With 180 mm you can fit most all the short-variant cards that are designed specifically to be stubby. At around 280 mm you can get whichever GPU you want and find multiple models that will fit, though the longest cards will not.

I don't know completely myself - if manufacturers list the length of the graphics card as being the length of the PCB only or if they include the cooling shroud.

I'm new to anything related with building pc cases - so I expect to confuse myself.

are you taking the height into account?

things like HOF cards are pretty tall and go way beyond PCI-E bracket

Mine (Fury X) is weird since it's technically pretty small (195mm) it has watercooling so the radiator and tubes make it longer.

The height of the card in its current layout isn't really limited (at ~170mm).

do you have any models or concept arts?

would be really interesting to see them

also can you make it fit crossfire/sli setups? like a mobo sandwitched between two huge GPUs? would be epic, I don't believe there are cases capable of it on the market

As of now it's mostly in the brainstorming stage. I don't think that the case will support Crossfire/SLI; for there aren't any mITX boards (that I know of) that can use more than one card.

PCI-E splitters and risers obviously do magic )))
