While I'm not from the US, I can see a pile of new iPhone 5S on ebay for under 200$, so those are an option as well. If you want a cheap iPhone, the step from the 5(c) to the 5S is certainly worth it.

I was going for phones some people would overlook or miss, but the honor 6x is a great phone for $220 and for that matter there's a lot of phones in the $200-$300 range there are great, Moto G Plus, HTC one m8(or m9), sony xperia XA, the list could go forever really. 

I just picked phones that all round were good and had a lot to offer
