Applying a lut in FCPX vs Premiere

So i just shot some footage on my new a6300 (using slog3), and i came to editing, i chose final cut this time... i usually use premiere on windows, but i decided to give final cut a try on my hackintosh... I applied the lut that i usually use for slog3, and i realised it looked really grainy in final cut... so i opened premiere and did the same thing, and it looked much better... im not sure whats going on, but i feel like theres more noise in the final cut project.... im using mLut to apply the lut, and im using the stock lumetri colour in premiere...

Can someone tell me why it looks so much worse in final cut? I would prefer to edit in final cut because its just so much easier and the transitions are much better...

If i cant figure it out and fix it, then ill have to edit in premiere, or apply lumetri to all the clips and export them and then make the final edit in fcpx.594d501f5c7e6_ScreenShot2017-06-23at18_28_11.png.bc3e6e1e147d31c2cb13b163bde64327.png

ive attached a sample image that shows the difference...

final cut is set to prefer quality over performance, and premiere is set to full quality

Thanks

Try exporting a test clip from FCP and see if it's still grainy. FCP will reduce the quality in the viewer to make sure it doesn't drop any frames.

Yeah, so it's probs doing 3/4 quality, whereas you have Premier set manually to full quality.

Yeah thanks. I exported them, and it looks a lot better... Although the premiere file looks slightly better I'm not sure why, but the final cut file is still pretty decent. And is there a way to specify exactly what export setting I want in final cut? I feel like there isn't as much control compared to premiere/media encoder. (I have compressor, but it's still not as customizable as media encoder)

Yes, there should be a second tab where you choose the preset, compression type, and whether to prefer quality over speed.

In compressor? I couldn't find anything other than the bitrate and resolution.

In FCP X.

I'll pull it up on my laptop and check.

EDIT: Here, when you go to Share -> Master file (or Apple devices 1080p or whatever):

You click settings and get this:

Then you choose the format and codec. If I'd chosen H.264 or something, it'd give me the option to prefer speed or quality.

hmmm, it doesnt seem to give me that option... compressor has more options imo... but still not even close to that of media encoder...

ahh yes i see it now, but still i dont even know what bitrate its exporting at.... i think ill stick to either compressor or ill just export it as a massive prores file and then transcode it using media encoder.
