Is this a good PSU ?

Hey guys, I have completed my build, I just need a PCU, I was going for the 530W Thermaltake Smart SE, but I was told that series from Thermaltake isn't the best.

So I decided to stretch my budget a little and go for the Corsair RM550x, wich seems a good product (€87). What do you think about it?

This is my build by the way:

Case:  Zalman z9 neo

Ram:  D4 3000 16GB C15 Corsair Ven K2 

Cpu:  Intel Core i5-7600 (3,50Ghz/4,10Ghz) 1151 BOX 

Mobo:  Intel 1151 Gigabyte GA-H270-Gaming 3 Chipset H270

PSU:  550W Corsair RM550x

Hard disk: WD 3,5" 1000 GB 1TB 64MB WD

Vga: used zotac gtx 970

WLAN: PCI 300Mb TP-link TL-WN851ND

Check the PSU tier list, you want something from tier 3 or above:

I recommend the Seasonic S12ii or M12ii if you want modular.  The 620 watt should be good.

Yeah, the Thermaltake Smart SE is based on the CWT GPM platform like the Corsair VS. It's a rather low-end unit.

 

The Corsair RM550x is a very good high-end unit, that's significantly better than that Thermaltake.

In the Tier List sent by Zando Bob the RM550x si in tier 1, so that's good.

I think i'll go with that.

Yes! RMx is awesome, and modular is awesome. Just how much they cost is not awesome to my poor sad wallet.

There is another option from SeaSonic it is The G Series, i am getting the 550W one for $67 new

But that RMx will look better in my Evolve TG, so I'm kind of stuck. And I'd like to get an EVGA G3, but they are MOAR EXPENSIVE, which unlike MOAR FPS and MOAR RGB, is not a good thing.

But the guy dumped me, so I got an MSI Gaming 980 Ti 6G. So I'm all good. Plus, I'm getting a Gigabyte mobo.

Yeah. But they don't have a G series, AFAIK. And I'm currently trying to decide between a K5 or K7, as the K7 only has a few extra features I may not use.

Yeah. And I may go with the 62W M12II, so I don't have to get a new PSU for a bit. Eventually I'll get an RMx or G3, but I've gotta get everything else first.

Yeah, and when i can directly talk to my dad i can ask him for my planned upgrade in $700-800 budget

Rather than the M12II-B, go for the EVGA Supernova 550w B3 :

It's a more modern design than the 7 year old M12II-B design, and it less expensive as well.

The NEX650G / NEX750G or the G1 are budget-level gold units based on the FSP Aurum platform. It's mediocre in pretty much in all categories except for efficiency. It's not bad; however, the design isn't suited at the 650+ range. The EVGA Supernova 1000 G1 isn't a bad unit though, as it based on it completely different design.

 

I much rather get the B3. While it is a lesser efficient design, it utilizes DC-DC for the generation of the minor rails. This mean it will offer vastly superior line / load / crossload regulation, and help with better response to transient loads.

 

Other options like the EVGA Supernova G2, Seasonic G, Corsair RMx, Rosewill Photon, etc. that's give or take in the same price point as the G1 would be better units as well if you are looking for a Gold efficiency unit.

The RMx is good but I'd maybe get a slightly cheaper PSU so you can have money set aside for an SSD.
