Any metalheads here on LTT?

TeKNiQue

Any metalheads here on LTT? What's your favourite genre of metal? Do you play any instruments? What's your favourite band? Mine is Dream Theater :)

I personally don't enjoy 9-string guitars, but that doesn't change the fact that they look awesome as hell!

How can you ask if metallica are overrated?  they earn what they do because people love them, they have sold over 110 million albums and rollingstone ranked them 61 in the top 100 artists. Which means like them or not they are no more overrated than hannah Montanan.

Not to start an argument, but Kirk and Lars ain't nothing special. Lars' timing is terrible; he's always been a mediocre drummer from the beginning.

James is one of my guitar idols though. Dave Mustaine being my number one.

Well, it's a mutual opinion among many, many musicians at least.

EDIT: This is about Kirk and Lars not being very special, not about having their talents.

Metallica haven't made anything good for 20 years. :/

My favorite bands are Killswitch Engage/Times of Grace, Demon Hunter, Living Sacrifice, Tomahawk... I could keep going, lol might as well stop now though.

I've been playing guitar for 13 years I think, have a bass and try my best to sing a long to my favorite bands. :P

I like symphonic, gothic and power metal.  I passed beginner guitar three years ago so I guess that's what I play.  I have heard some great covers of Metallica songs.

I strongly dislike metal and a lot of the pseudo-masculine attitudes that commonly come from it.

I used to listen to a lot of Death Metal and Grindcore

some of my favorite bands are Nasum, Misery Index, Fuck the Facts, Fuck... I'm Dead, Regurgitate, Japanische Kampfhörspiele, Kataklysm.

But i don't see myself as just a "Metalhead" since i like a lot of different other genres too.

I voted Metallica as overrated mostly because they are often used to represent metal but are really just representing a very specific style... They definitely made some great albums though...

Symphonic/orchestral metal. a mix between soundtracks, classical music and the odd power metal guitar riff/solo. I like music as long as it is melodic, and sometimes fun too like songs that have a cool story through them like Scenes from a memory and all of Rhapsody of Fire's albums,  or long songs that change the theme over time like heroes of the waterfalls kingdom (fits in with the latter), the count of tuscany. Nightwish are cool as well as a guy that some of you may have heard of called Pellek. he does his own songs and metal covers of things like LOTR, anime, skyrim etc... as well as good classic songs and some not so classic (or that good) songs for fun like "what does the fox say" or "gangnam style"
