Did you not see that it's across multiple years, as well?  If I look at the model number for a Dell/HP/Lenovo/et all, I can instantly figure out which specific version I'm looking at.  There may be different configurations of it, but it's just various options for that model.

 

Apple uses one model for not just various configurations (they have a separate EMC number to quantify that), but for multiple versions across multiple years.  That is most definitely NOT the same thing.

The model number designates the family while the order number and identifier are Mac specific. And the order number is just as prominently listed as the mode number. Your gripe is that they should call the order number the model and the model should be called something else, but they're still differentiated the same as other products.

I know they had issues with some components inside and the trackpad and keyboard would stop working. It also throttled with the core but who gets a stealth to game on when its a dual core with HT. Anyways it is around $200 cheaper than Apple's counter part and has 8gbs more RAM and a faster CPU

I know that I'm not the target audience, but $1400 for a dual-core and integrated graphics sounds like a bad joke. They're basically saying that the screen is worth $700.

Mbp lets you use both osx and windows without any the use 3rd party tools
