how do you do it then?

also thx for the answer

It's a fantastic card

the fans do turn off under idle, and it's completely silent. Stays under 70c at 100% usage overclocked to 20388mhz.

you download the Asus Aura software from their website to control the lighting, but you don't have to have it open to have the lighting on all the time. I think there's a chip on the card that stores your lighting settings.

hi i am currently trying to decide between a msi 1070 gaming x or asus rog strix 1070  but i am wondering how quiet is the asus one and are the fans turned off when the card is a specific temp like the mis one and do you need a aura motherboard to control the lighting?

hope someone can inform me on this.

I have an ASUS Strix 1080 and I absolutely love the card. Very quiet considering the performance out of it. I'm sure you will not be disappointed with the Strix 1070. By the way, ASUS always had pretty high performance cards out there, marginally beating out Gigabyte and MSI by a few FPS.

Specs: Intel Core i7 2600k | Gigabyte Z68-UD3H-B3 | EVGA 1080 FTW2 Gaming | Kingston HyperX Red 16GB | Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo | Corsair CX600 |
Lian Li Lancool-II white

Laptop: ASUS ROG Zephyrus M15 (Intel i7, 16GB, RTX 2070) | 2013 MacBook Pro 15 (Intel i7, 16GB, GT750M)

I have a 1080 Strix and I can barely hear it when gaming, and it makes no noise at all while idle because the fans are off. You use software to control the lighting, motherboard doesn't matter. The lights are bright too, it lights up ny whole case.

I have an Asus Strix GTX 1070 and Asus Z170-A motherboard. You only need the Aura software to control lighting.

A couple words of caution: the best white the Strix LEDs seem to be able to do still has a slightly violet hue. I use it like that and still think it looks good, but if that might a problem for your aesthetic, beware. Also, the card is huge in all dimensions. Make sure you've got room, both length and width.

If those aren't deal-breakers for you, I think it's a great choice. I'm very happy with mine.

To control the lighting for the Asus ROG Strix (I have an ROG Strix GTX 1080 Ti), you have to download the Aura lighting control software for the GPU (not the motherboard). Once installed, it'll be called AURA (GRAPHICS CARD), which is the name of the program you're looking for.

You can download the piece of software direct from Asus on the product page for the ROG Strix GTX 1070.

I haven't experimented a lot with other colors, but from what I have seen it's really just the white that seems to look strange. I think the LEDs handle the rest of the spectrum just fine.

Not sure if anyone answered this, but asus cards turn off the fans if under a set temperature. You can turn it off so they spin all the time if you'd like too.
