RAID 1 or nahh??

AmpMC

Simple question, looking for your opinion. The next system I will build will be strictly gaming. I don't want to start this post with specs or anything like that but I don't mind getting into that in another thread if that's a discussion you want to have. My question is about storage, obviously an SSD for boot, but for just game storage do you prefer using just one drive to save everything to, or doing a RAID 1 setup to keep redundancy in case the single drive fails? WD Caviar Blue's in 1TB are only like $49. So $100 for 1TB of redundant storage doesn't seem bad to me at all. But that's just me.

What are your thoughts or current setups with your gaming storage?

If its worth the $49 to you then go for it. I myself store anything "important" on my RAID10 server so I have no need for my desktop to be redundant.

Certain drives don't play well with RAID, so check out the spec and reviews before buying it for RAID. Just save them separately because RAID does hardware failure not software.

Accidentally your entire steam folder as well as the recycle bin, your 2nd drive will do the same thing automatically.

for normal use I would not advise RAID 1 as it will slow down performance.

If you want some kind of safety mechanism tho, I would advice using the second drive to backup the first periodically.
