Is it the exact same remote or is it different for the wireless connection or sizing of the remote?

I want to get a spare Wii remote plus and a nunchuck and I found one but it's from Japan.  I just don't want to buy it and find it doesn't work.

Are you referring to the Wii or the Wii U? If you are referring to the original wii then yes that will work, confirmed.

Yes, you can use Japanese Wii remotes with an American Wii U. They aren't region locked.

I was concerned they might use different wireless frequencies or something.

Wii U is what I'd use it with but so far as I know both the Wii and Wii U use the same remotes.

Nah, from what I remember it's basically a Bluetooth variant, so it really couldn't differ from each other.

Check out my guide on how to scan cover art here!

Different countries might have different rules on electronic devices and signals they emit so I wanted to be sure.

I could get a NA Wiimote plus for about the same as what it seems I could get a Japanese set that includes a nunchuck so I'd rather get the better deal but checking first seemed wise.    Kind of hard to return items coming from foreign countries.  ?

wiimotes are bone stock bluetooth, you can pair them with your PC if you want, it'll even show up as a wiimote, you just wont be able to do anything with it without software specificly made to capture wiimote inputs.

Using it to play Skyward Sword on my Wii U would be sufficient.  ?

Controllers for the most part (I've yet to see any from any recent console) be region locked.

I've been stationed in Japan and have used both US and Japanese Wiimotes with my US Wii and Dual Shock 3's with both a US and Japanese PS3.

Good to know.

You're in the military?  Or were?   Do you mind if I ask what branch?

I was (getting out at the end of the month). Did 11 years in the Air Force.

Cool.  I thought about the Air Force at one point but wasn't sure I was cut out for it.

Little off topic (I'll allow it though this is my topic. lol) but thank you for your service.  ?

Not everyone appreciates people who served so I feel it's important to show some gratitude for your serving in the Air Force.  Best branch IMO.  ?
