On an off chance, you don't use Spotify, do you?

Beause if you were using the root of D:\ for Spotify's cache, it would do that: https://forums.digitalspy.com/discussion/1306489/can-these-files-be-safely-deleted

do they contain a another folder called sandbox?

EDIT: could also be spotify or itunes shinannigans

I def think that those are SOME kinda cache folders.  I've seen After Effects do similar for it's RAM Cache too.  Though by default, one's location for such things is not the root of the drive.  But his drive is dubbed 'working' so he may be just using it as a big scratch disk or something.

yea i have a hard time believing that this is a virus. its too organized(actually sequential), and i dont think its windows doing it(lack of hexadecimal naming), this is deffinately a chache.

i bet he installed something to root D:\ that he should have put in a subfolder

EDIT: i almost garauntee its his Maya install

Was just going to say, this is a standardized structure used by many programs that cache files for offline use in chunks, usually using folder and filenaming schemes revolving around hexadecimal. If you take a peek at the regular Spotify cache location in the picture below, this is the normal structure for it:

spotify_cache_folder.PNG.c8e442c1173b89c1ec16e1848f5786e0.PNG

You probably somehow set your D:\ drive as a storage location for Spotify or another app that uses a similar storage structure, or it may have set it automagically if you have low disk space on your C:\ drive.

if its not spotify, its probably maya.

Maya should be dumping those into your temp folder though...

ive never personally used it, however from what i can find, you MIGHT be able to resolve this buy disabling hypershade

I had a similar problem where my computer would create a new folder every time I powered up. I ignored it for a while but ended up with hundreds of files on my computer. Never did find a fix but I uninstalled Windows and installed Linux so it's no longer a problem.

Check if you recently changed your Spotify Offline files location, because I did that and the exact same files popped up. I confirmed it was my offline Spotify files when I tried to delete it but said it was open in another location, and it worked after I closed Spotify.
