Greetings,

Hey guys I'll be building my new system on Friday and I have a few questions before my build. I haven't built a PC since the AGP days. I bought my last few builds from Ibuypower because the prices were so good at that time. Here are my system specs:

Case: Corsair Carbide 400C White
Motherboard: Asus Z270 Prime-A
CPU: Core i-5 7600k
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1070
PSU: EVGA Supernova G3 750 PSU
CPU Air Cooler: Deepcool Assassin 2
Memory: 16GB (x2 8GB Stick) Corsair Vengence LPX
SSD: Kingston V300 240GB

1. So before I install Windows 10 on my fresh build, what do you guys recommend me checking in BIOS? Do I need to change any settings?

2. Same question as #1 but after I install Windows 10. What do you guys recommend me changing or checking on the BIOS?

3. Someone told me to check the xmp option for the RAM as my RAM might not be running at full speed if its not enabled. Can someone explain this more in detail? Is it easy to find this option?

4. So even if my RAM says 3000mhz in the BIOS, I still need to enable the xmp option as it won't be running at full speed still?

5. What are the best programs to download to monitor computer temps? All I need is a CPU and GPU temp program right? I don't need anything fancy like software that also enabled you to change the fan speeds. I can do that from the BIOS. Just something simple and dependable

6. What are good/safe temperatures for my rig for a.light loads such as watching youtube videos and watching streams b.heavy loads when I'm gaming on one stream and have youtube videos/twitch streams on my other monitor

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

Off topic: Don't order/return that i5 because the R5 1600 is by far a better CPU for now and the future at a better price point.

On Topic:

1. You dont NEED to change anything, its good to boot for the 1st time at optimal defaults then come back in later to OC or whatever.

2. Same answer as 1, BIOS tweaks are optional and largely overclocking related.

3. DDR4 RAM runs by default at 2133, more expensive kits such as vengeance LPX 3000 for example are rated to run at 3000 and have a settings profile called an XMP (Extreme Memory Profile) saved on them. To enable this you select the XMP profile from the BIOS, it's very simple to do and all settings are set for you. Find your rated speed on the product packaging.

4. You could set it manually but yes load XMP as it sets the optimal settings for you.

5. GPU Z, CPU Z, Heaven/Valley benchmarks (GPU), Cinebench (CPU), Aida64 Extreme (CPU stability).

6. Anything under 80 is safe for a system, side note you are going to have a poor streaming experience on a 4 core 4 thread CPU compared to the similarly priced 6 core 12 thead ryzen 1600.
