so on my i7 5930K i under an enermax liqmax II used some coollabs liquid ultra for the TIM

i recently figured out that the temps i was getting were not normal under water (even with a light OC 90C is not good)

so i took the watercooler off and it looked like i probably had a bunch of air there so i tried to clean it up a bit and apply some more only to find my tube had sort of crusted up so i cleaned it up but there was some residue stuck to both the CPU IHS and the watercooler plate

as a stop gap (3 months ago i know <.<) i applied the only thermal paste i could find (some horrifyingly cheap shite i got from maplins about 5 years ago) recently after i noticed things were getting rather hot playing siege (and one or two BSODs later) i decided it was time to actually get shit sorted

only theres the metal paste residue stuck to everything

now anyone know a way to remove this? someone on reddit said try putting some aluminium foil on it and leave it for a while as gallium tends to like that more than copper and whatever CPU IHSs are made of

i think i have some very fine grit sandpaper somewhere as well

edit: should probably point out that stuff has been on there for about a year and a half now...

edit edit: also why is my user name random numbers?

To clarify.  Are you asking about how to remove the staining caused by using Coollaboratory Liquid Metal?  Or is it some other kind of TIM?

Never dull, Brasso or any metal polish will remove the staining from the IHS and cooler. They'll look brand new after you're done.

Make sure that you thoroughly clean the surfaces with alcohol after you use the metal polish and before you apply the new paste.
