I recently found a good deal on a 1700 and was thinking about finally purchasing and building my computer. Although I am not sure if I should wait for X299 and the 7800X. Any suggestions or opinions?

The deal that I found was a 1700 with an AsRock Tachi motherboard for $360. I was wondering if it is a good idea or just wait for X299? It does seem more superior on paper though.

I'd say go for it, 7800x+x299 board is gonna be at least $600 or so.

EDIT: Plus that's one of the best x370 boards out there.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

You'd probably be paying that much alone for a decent X299 motherboard if the pricings anything like x99, definitely get the 1700.

I would go with the 1700. I don't how see the 7800X will be more attractive than the 1700. The cores may be more powerful and the clocks much higher but the platform will be more expensive than what you can find for Ryzen. With Ryzen you can even pick something like an Asus B350 Prime mobo and overclock the 1700 to 4.1GHz if you're lucky in the silicon lottery. I reckon than you could even buy a cheaper B350 mobo and be able to overclock just as well. Plus you would need at least a 140W cooler for the 7800X.

How in the world did you not buy that bundle already? For $360 it is more than worth it.

Why bother, a b350+ r7 1700+ stock cooler will give you the same workstation content creation performance for much cheaper.
