My laptop (my gaming device for the last few years) recently died so I'm looking to build a new desktop for gaming. I currently have a build in mind:

however, it will take me a while to acquire money for this build (peripherals aren't included in that list). So I'm thinking about building a cheap budget gaming rig for the meantime and then upgrading in the future (4-6 months down the road)

heres the budget rig:

I'm planning on using the same case, PSU, HDD, and memory from my more expensive build in my budget build so I only have to upgrade my MOBO/CPU/graphics card

and buy an SSD once I'm ready to upgrade. I've done the math already and it'll cost around $150ish more to do the cheap rig and then upgrade instead of waiting to build the expensive one. Just curious if you guys think this is plausible or not? Thanks in advance for the help, i appreciate it. I realize this may be a really dumb idea so that's why I'm asking the people who know way more than I do.

edit: totally forgot to mention this-

the budget rig is to play strictly esports games (CSGO, Overwatch, LOL etc) and less intensive games until I have the money for the better build then the upgraded build will be more oriented towards AAA titles and more demanding games as well as some streaming.

i have done this and is definitely possible but it is also a bit of a hassle too. that being said you would have to save up a large portion of the money required to build the full rig in order to build the budget rig so i would just save up.

I think you should get the Ryzen build, but with the following tweaks to cut down cost which you can later upgrade. Also get the SSD (240GB) first, it will take a while to fill 240GB up and once you do you add the hard drive. Better than HDD first because you don't have to install Windows again and you get the speed from the get go.

I chose the Masterbox case there because it's better in performance, just as easy to work in, and costs a bit less. The Ryzen 1500X is just as good as the 1600 in games as of right now so don't get the bigger one if you're not doing heavy tasks. And this PSU is great, don't be deceived by its low price tag. You can run your full system on it just fine.

The only two things there are to upgrade here are RAM and HDD. So it does mean that you have to save a bit more but you can start gaming at your total cost minus $100. Honestly you could start off with an RX 580, it will do you well for a while and save you $200 more, then you can sell it and make some $175 back when you get a 1070 or equivalent Vega card.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

Yeah that makes total sense. I would really love to stream also, so would the 1600 still be a good deal for the extra cores? And I know it's generally not a good idea but I could always buy another stick of the exact same memory later on when I'm ready, right? Just as long as it's the same speed/brand/type and all that? Thank you by the way, helps out a ton!

Yeah if you want to stream the 1600 will do you well for $40 more. Yes you can just buy another stick of that RAM :)

Try to match it exactly but if you can't, just have it be same speed or more. If it doesn't work you can just return it which I suppose is a hassle but shouldn't happen.
