Hey, so I have had alot of problems with my rig recently so I have decided to go for a upgrade. I only have to upgrade the MB, CPU & RAM, so after some research I have decided to go for: 7700k , ASUS ROG Maximus IX Hero (z270) ,  CRYORIG R1 Universal. As for the ram I´ve decided to go for a set of G.Skill tridents, but here is where I need help. Im going for the 2400 or 3600MHz, I saw the Linus video on the matter "Does RAM speed REALLY matter?" and really didd´nt get any wiser. From what i understand the "optimal for price" is 2666, but my vendor only have 2400-(3200)*-3600 (not in stock for another month)*. Do you think I will be able to clock the 2400 up to 2666 (or even higher?) There is like 100$ difference.

Memory frequency really doesn't matter on Intel CPUs as much as it does on Ryzen, 2400mhz would work fine enough and G.Skill Trident has very good latency as far as I am concerned so it should work out...

The GTX 1080 performance is affected by RAM, while below it GTX 1070 doesn't

What? Are you just regurgitating shit from the Hardware Unboxed video?

I forgot who's the uploader of that video, maybe you're right

Wait, is that true? Because i want to use GTX 970

Faster memory will give you several benefits if you're gaming but the diminishing returns start to kick in at around 3000MHz.

IMO, not worth the extra hundred if you're restricted by those two options.

During CPU-heavy tasks, faster memory makes a difference - in games like GTA V and Crysis 3 for example.

You didn't see a difference up till the 1080 due to the CPU limiting itself due to the GPU

idk

Hmm, will it be the same when editing?

If it's RAM-intensive a higher frequency can help - for example Premiere RAM restores.

Oh, i get it now. I think Q9650 can struggle editing

I wouldn't get the ASUS ROG Maximus IX Hero get the ASUS ROG Z270H (no aura sync) or he ASUS ROG Z270E (with aura sync)

For RAM if you have a glass panel get the Trident z RGB 2400MHZ but don't go higher than 3000MHZ and if you don't have glass panel just get Trident z

CPU I totally agree with

and if you have enough room I would get this CPU cooler

What is wrong with the ROG maximus hero? I really just picked that because I like the aesthetics, the z270E is priced the same so if theres no performance difference (features) I think I will be going with the Hero.

On my last rig I had a closed water loop (H100) This time around I think I will go for CRYORIG R1 Universal. I read good things performance/noise wise.

As for the RAM thanks for the help everyone!
I think I will be going for another vendor for the RAM. Another vendor had the 3200Mhz RAM for the same price as my "Main vendor" sold the 2400MHz (and its in stock :D). I dont really upgrade my rig that often, so it´s nice not "cheaping out" :) .

Nothing is wrong with ROG motherboard, it's just too fancy for people like me (ordinary)
