Is changing the thermal paste on your GPU worth it? Anyone seen improved gains?

Hey

I have an MSI GTX 1080 Aero, so blower style ... temps are not that crazy but I heard you can improve them with a good thermal compound. Anyone had any experience with this? What were your results?

Here you go, Linus did a video on it and saw at least a few degrees of difference, if the paste is old you will see a larger difference.

when i put the Thermal Pads on my EVGA card, they sent a packet of greese with it. I said NO WAY and used AS5. weather or not that improoved temps, i don't know, but it did run cooler.

they certainly did not apply it sparingly at the factory.

If it starts to heat up and spikes, yes go for it.

Here are two videos of two different guys changing thermal compound from stock to liquid metal.

Spoiler

After repasting about 3 degrees difference and small reduction of fan speed. However, he didn't applied a layer of liquid metal onto heatsink. Which could explain why he had very small temperature drop.

Small gain on clock speed and about 10 degrees drop. Yes, he did it on GPU with better cooling but he also applied liquid metal on both GPU die and heatsink.
