Which MaBook For Graphic Design?

So my father owns his own consulting/marketing business and purely uses apple products for their graphic design and video editing. Currently he has a handful of iMac's and one MacBook Pro. The iMac's are holding up fine (they're 2014 and newer I believe) but his MacBook (2010 or 20122 I believe) can no longer keep up and he needs a new one. 

 

They use FinalCut on the iMacs but never on the MacBook, I think the only time he would use FinalCut on the MacBook is if he had to while on business or other special circumstances. 

 

Other programs used are Photoshop and possibly other adobe products in the future. They have multiple programs running at the same time almost all the time. 

 

So the question is, what MacBook is the best choice for price to performance for their needs. Needs to be the 15", doesn't matter what year, IO differences are less important (i.e. the fact that the newest MacBook only utilizes thunderbolt)

2015 15 inches with a DGPU is the last pro MacBook that existed.

yeah if they made that with a DGPU it would be perfect.

I was looking at that... I just have a tough time going with the newest MBP. The touch bar won't be used, and it seems like it might be a poor value.

usb type c TB is really useless for now, it will take a minimum of 5 to 10 years before it becomes standardize.

That is a lie. Thunderbolt 3 is the best single connector solution on the market. 

 

It is already a standard as far as Thunderbolt goes. 

 

It can be adapted out to literally everything, so it doesn't matter if things don't specifically use Thunderbolt. 

 

Do not forget because its the USB-C connector the MBP is already ready for a fully USB-C world.

nope, not in the pro world. people want things that work not gimmicks, the new MacBooks are not exactly designed for the pro market.

yup that 10 people who have usb type c stuff for it, OP will be using it as a pro for that reason i suggest an older macbook that has better battery life and fewer glitches. as a facebook machine, the new MacBook pro is the best machine in the world. i used a late 2016 MacBook pro 15 inch with a Dgpu, my experiences were same as this guy.

for a mac that's pathetic paying over 3k for a machine that needs sorting out. touch bar is not really worth getting, keyboard shortcuts are very important, touch bar ruins that.

The TouchBar does not remove the ability to have shortcuts, if anything it expands the fnbars functionality by having it be able to actually change what is displayed on it.

no.... pressing a physical button is much better than having to look down. the function bar is still very unreliable.

No. From what I have experienced you have to look down anyway to hit a MacBooks fn keys because they are so small. So your point of convince of not having to look down doesn't actually hold up.
