Catastrophic Constant and Continual Freezing

Hello,

My computer keeps freezing up after about 10 minutes of use, forcing me to hold to the power button until it shuts down. I have run anti virus and anti malware, and found nothing. Finally, I reinstalled windows (but kept everything on me secondary drive) and the issue is still happening! Tried googling it, and haven't found anything relevant. What should I do?

 

On latest version of Windows 10

I can see that, how do I fix that?

 

Right before it freezes my connection drops (using a wifi adapter). Idk if thats relevant, but I just noticed it

The freezing, mouse still working, but nothing else? Harddrive maxed out at 100% usage?

Mouse still works, but not sure about drive being masked b/c I've never been able to get task manager up. I have it up now and will tell you when it freezes again in a sec

Froze again, can't confirm drive maxing out b/c task manager freezes too. But mouse definitely still works, and nothing else.

I just copy and paste a few things form other message boards. 

 

I had a similar issue on my laptop with windows 10. It was the only machine that showed this behavior. System froze, mouse was still working, but I couldn't start new programs, open up the start menu etc. After a few minutes, 2-3 the system started working again until 5-10 minutes later.

 

In my case this was the culprit:

 

From the Windows Menu, go to Settings, then go to System and then go to Notifications and Actions. Turn off "Show Me Tips About Windows".

 

Sounds funny but yes, that was freezing the laptop.

wich win 10 do you have installed? Anniversary update? the new Creators update?

Creators update, and I made sure its up to date.

Does the Event and System Log throw any errors for the time the machine freezes?

Here a Link to some solutions for a freezing Windows 10. 

 

So if none of that helps, it may be dying hardware. Faulty SSD, faulty ram, the PSU etc.

Yes it does, errors, warnings, and criticals

Here is one of the errors that seems to repeat, and correspond with the crashes:

"The CldFlt service failed to start due to the following error: 
The request is not supported."

 

The others are just about me forcing a shutdown, except one warning which also repeated:

"Intel(R) Ethernet Connection I217-V
 Network link is disconnected."

 

This is odd, since I am not using Ethernet, but it might explain why my connection stops right before a freeze. I went into device manager and disabled it. No more of that warning, but I still froze as expected after a few minutes more. So I think the first CldFlt error might be the big one here.

the CldFlt - ID 7000 error is quite common after creators update and until now didn't cause freezes.

Yeah, apparently related to some one drive thing. And if its from the creators update then its definitely not it bc I have been crashing before I reinstalled.

I ran windows memory test, no problems found. What else could it be?

The SSD, Powersupply, Harddisk.

 

Did you change anything on the system before it happened the first time?

No I didn't, but I just turned it on without logging in or anything. And came back to find it frozen on that screen with the clock and the background...

So it's definitely not some 3rd party app, might be hardware. I just don't know how to check for that

Crystal Disk Info helps reading out Drive stats (S.M.A.R.T. Values) 

Temperatures with Speccy (Piriform Website) 

 

Another thought, Bios Settings for your CPU. You could do a load defaults inside of the bios, safe and reboot. Then see if it hangs again.

I did this, CrystalDiskInfo says both drives are in good health, with the SSD being 99%. All my temps look normal too.\

 

I loaded default bios settings, and cleaned all registry "errors" (using CCleaner).

I will update this post if I crash again

i had this problem. uninstall your gpu drivers, and reinstall them from manufacturer website, not from windows update.

oh okay, check the windows error logs. to do that, go to start and type in "view event logs". look through them and look for any errors.

I went back to Win 8.1 and that solved it, so thanks!
