I have been wanting to dip my toe into watercooling for a while now. I have decided to go with an AIO to begin with for my CPU, mostly for cost currently. One thing I am not sure about is none of the coolers ever seem to say how much heat they can dissipate. I currently have an i5 2500K OC'd at 4.3GHz so I am guessing at full tilt a TDP of 110-120 watts (ish?). How do I pick a cooler that can deal with that (plus maybe some headroom) without overspending?

As I understand it the thing to consider with a watercooler radiator isn't just the width and height of the unit, but also the thickness. Obviously the larger each of those dimensions are, the greater the heat dissipation level.

Case wise I have a Fractal Design R5 which can take a 140mm fan on the back and twin 120 or 140mm fans on top. Although clearance on the top would be more of an issue with regards to the 8 pin CPU connector.

Just for reverence, I am thinking of this for two main reasons. One because I want to try out what all the cool kids are doing ;) and second, I want to loose the MASSIVE heatsink that I can see through my side window and have something a little more subtle! I'd also like to be able to have a reduction in fan noise as well as a side benefit (current air cooler has a 92mm fan on it).

There isn't an exact limit to coolers as it depends a lot on the fans and the speed they run at, you can compensatewith high RPM fans but at the downfall of excessive noise. It's one of the reasons why larger rads on AIO's are recommended such as dual space units like 240 or 280mm.

You don't need to worry about that.

You either A) can afford a 240 or 280mm radiator in which case it will work great

or B) cannot afford that so you stick to air cooling because 120/140mm AIOs are not worth it.
