I'm going to keep this as PG as possible, and ask y'all t'do the same. Mods, if this is too inappropriate of a topic, that's completely understandable. Alright, now that that's out of the way, let's do this.

This robot can hold in-depth conversations, use simulated facial muscles, and purportedly hold a relatively natural conversation. Matt believes that Harmony well eventually be able to walk and be about as close to human as possible.

 

Harmony also has adjustable emotions, and she reacts much like an actual human to insults, complements, etc.

'This is not a toy to me, this is the actual hard work of people who have PhDs,' he explained. 'And to denigrate it down to its simplest form of a sex object is similar to saying that about a woman.'

 

'My goal, in a very simple way, is to make people happy,' McMullen concluded, pointing out that 'There are a lot of people out there, for one reason or another, who have difficulty forming traditional relationships with other people.'

 

'It’s really all about giving those people some level of companionship – or the illusion of companionship,' [McCullen] said.

1,000 Harmonies will be available at the end of the end of the year.

 

Well, I don't admire this for the sexual aspects, because actual human interaction should still be a thing, and sex with robots is very weird, in my view, but its advancements in conversation, simulated emotion, etc. is very, very interesting. Also, AIs' advancing methods of learning are very interesting.

I absolutely love this. I can't wait until humans are living in harmony with robots or have robot slaves.

If they really want to sell these, they need some extra features.  Such as, cleans the house, cooks food, can afk gold farm in your preferred MMO while you are at work.  You know the usual stuff.  And you can have sex with it without having to clean it yourself.

 

At that point, they could charge anything, and people would buy them.  Maybe even buy more than one, you know, to help out the other one.....

It depends a lot on their personalities, it would be cool if they were free to develop "unique" ones rather than all being leaded to subservience... but quite frankly I'm really not sure how far could deep learning bots go in terms of conscious, should it mimic what you expect from a human being that would have to include expectation and the good or bad feelings that comes afterwards. It would certainly buying such toy would be as serious as having a dog or child should the technology advance so much.

This is the ultimate debate in AI.  If human history is any indicator, it will take a war to settle the debate.  Either between humans fighting for the robots, or the robots fighting us for independence.  Either way, I don't see it being a peaceful resolution unless the AI is able to become so powerful so quickly that no one in power would be foolish enough to even dare to fight it.
