I was going to get the B350 Plus from ASUS until I realized it only supports up to 2666 mhz memory.

I'm now looking at the ASUS X370 which will support 3200 mhz, but is it really worth 50 more dollars for better memory?

I also heard that Ryzen really strives off of higher speed memory, so is it worth it? (I'm getting Ryzen 5 1600)

50 dollars more? Not worth it for the performance gain.

IMO, 2666 is the sweet spot.

Faster RAM is usually a good investment, but having to pay $50 for a motherboard to use it? No.

If the op is referring to the Asus Prime 350-Plus B350 MB it does support 3200 as well as 2933, 2666, 2400 and 2133 memory with with Ryzen CPUs. No need to step up to a X370.

https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/PRIME-B350-PLUS/specifications/

Right now some people are having issues hitting 3200 but that's Improving with BIOS updates and should be taken care of in the near future. If you want the best chance of getting 3200 speeds now looks for Samsung B-Die. An easy way to know your getting it without looking up listings is looks for DDR4 3200 with a CL of 14. That will pretty much insure your getting B-Die and give you the best chance at reaching the highest speeds. Otherwise you can go for 3200 CL16 and wait for some bios updates which will save you a little money.

Here's some info on the B-Die situation if you'd like to check it out.

yes get the x370 definatley... also the best ram out right now for ryzen is the G.skill flare x  3200 which is Samsung die chips.  they are also tweaked too run at 3466mhz from factory. you just need to bump the cpu bus frequency up a bit too get the ram to change ratio's so it can be oc'd too max.. bump up cpu from 100 too around 118 will get you 3466mhz ram with 16cl timings.

as a note the ryzen cpu's love high ram clock due too there cache structure, thats good to know info there..
